1952-59 Ford Need Help with wiring dash

  4. first q. A. Voltage dropper for your Gauges. next pic . the 2 blue with red tracers are the hot/live for dash lights.
    The other 2 you have drawn lines to that run back to same point will both be live/hot when the Key is on .
    As for your AMP gauge - DONT wire it in at all , if you are running an alternator the amp guage is the nasty little pyromaniac that will want to burn your car! .

    Thanks 4t6Ford That helps alot! Do you know which one of the wires is the ground wire on the Temp and Fuel gauge?

    On my 54 it was the two inside ones. On the temp gauge it runs to the engine temp unit and on the gas gauge it runs back to the sending unit. They don't get grounded at the instrument cluster.

    Something I dont understand is my car was running on 6vt so why is their a voltage dropper on it?

    Its more of a voltage regulator than a pure voltage drop. It pulses voltage to the guages, I think it lets them operate smoothly, ohterwise, full voltage(6 or 12) will peg the needles. ( I think).

    Replace that voltage regulator with the '57 and later unit as posted here earlier with the NAPA part number.
