I scored today this 700R4 (4L60) tranny for free.....What I know so far that the 7 = 87.... FA (no clue)....M = (700R4).....133 = (May 13) .....A _ (first AM shift) ......would like to know what FA is........and if it came out of a truck or car......or if its a heavy duty or light duty.......would anyone be able to help me decode this #

  2. Don't over analyze the thing.

The only thing you need to concern yourself with is the case designation on the belhousing and how many splines on the input shaft.

The case designation will be on the right (passenger) side of the belhousing, a few inches up from where the dip stick goes into the tranny. You want to see either an "MD8" or a "K". Anything else, use it for ballast.

The input shaft will be either a 27 or a 30 spline, you want a 30 spline. If it's a 27 spline throw it back on the pile or start collecting them because you'll be changing them quite often.

thanks.....it is a MD8......just need to do a spline count.......your info is much appreciated

  4. The "MD8" case is a very good case. If you were running a lot of power and/or torque and were racing the "K" case is better.
