I have a 56 Mercury Montclair Convertible and need a muffler for it. I have not been able to find one that will fit. Ford used a welded X between the frame rails which reduces the size of muffler that can be used. The distance from the bottom of the floor board to the center of the down pipe is about 3.5 inches with a max width of about 8" and a max length of the muffler is about 18 inches. Does any one have a 55 or 56 ford or merc convertible that could give me a part number and brand name of the muffler they are using. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Larry

I am not sure if merc that much different than ford but an old ford fast moving parts book I have shows the muffler being used on 54-56 duals as using ford part B4AA 5230 same on 54 S/d S/W 8cyl.55 fairlane except fairlane 55 S/W dual 55-56 6 cyl quite a few more in that 54-56 model year problem will be finding a place with actual people and books..been a while but I think I put turbos on my vicky with duals with X frame.a good muffler shop should have specs on muffler sizes inlets etc.
