A friend of mine with a 1948 Buick Special 248 straight eight and 3-speed trans want to change to a Dynaflow. Whats the different in length vs a manual 3-speed? I know its longer but how much? To get this to work he needs a shorter torqutube and the question is did a torquetube from a Dynaflow equipped 1950 Special fit in his 48?

The problem is getting the driveshaft off the rear end. If there is that much difference then change the whole assembly. Buick shop manual does not recommend taking driveshaft off pinion.

I change the the third member of my previous 48 without problems. The propeller shaft is connected to the pinion through a splined joint and a pin. But the question remains, will a torquetube from a -50 with Dynaflow fit right in to the -48?
