    transmission.

I have recently adapted the entire drive train from an 86 El Camino into my 53 chevy coupe. I am almost certain that the transmission is a GM metric 200 (it reads "METRIC" on the pan and has an overdrive gear). I need to know if an aftermarket floor shifter (like a lokar or something) is available for this tranny. I've found plenty of TH350, 400 and 700 stuff but cannot find a good source for metrics. Do I have other options for converting this column style tranny to a floor selector?

    Let me know.

    Thanks.

This is about the best picture I had of the transmission before it went into the car. Is this a metric 200 for sure?

from what I can see of it, it could be the 200-4R which is the overdrive version of the 200. If the pan is really long with a kind of separate part at the back, and the rear mount is at the very rear of the tranny, then that's what it is.

A friend recently put one of this in an A pickup, I think he found a lokar type shifter for it. I'll ask if I can remember...PM me if you need more info.

That's exactly what it looks like! There is a smaller pan-looking part behind the main pan and the mount is at the very rear of the unit.

Also, I found a better photo.

sure looks like the 200-4R. Lokar makes them, look at a street rod parts catalog for more info.

Or rig up something else, if you're handy at fabricating you might be able to make a floor mounted shifter for it...or maybe even a column shift.
