if you want it, buy it. You can't buy a used Toyota for that price.

Alot for a sedan. Not like its a hardtop or hardtop convert. Not an appealing year either. Not to be critical :)

  4. I thought it was a cool little turn key sedan. What I would really like is a 58 or 59 Impala but I can't touch them price wise. There was a all power 59 T-Bird that was sold the same day the ad posted.
And no Ken you're not being critical.
    Thanks man!

If you want it and plan to keep it, then its worth it. But if you search right now you could most likely find a nice hard top for the same price.

First of all thats not the answere he was looking for, second of all its not that simple. If your like me you buy based on price.....I not only have to like the car but part of the enjoyment of owning it is the fact that I got it for such a good deal....I'd say that is over priced for that car, I would keep looking. There are better deals out there.

I think the way to look at is as a used car. What can you buy for less than 10K The answer (at least here) is a 100,000 mile, 5 year old Taurus/Sable/Camrey. So, what would make you happier to walk out and see in the garage?

We felt the same way about the '62 Impala for our son. What could he buy for, in this example, less than 6 thousand? Nothing he wanted, or that would be any more reliable than this thing has turned out to be.

Buy the Ford if you like it.

  10. Thanks for that! You're right, I do want something that I can enjoy and not have to work on (much) just to keep it on the road.
The price did seem a bit high which is why I was asking for everyones help on this one.
    Thanks again.

  11. Aint that the truth!

    Very nice Impala BTW...

Too many doors for the price. It's a buyer's market. Look around some more.

The price may be a bit high, but that may not be what you buy it for. Everyone in Socal thinks their car is worth a fortune (Even though all of mine are!...lol) Go with some back up prices of like vehicles and talk 'em down.

  14. The ones at car shows and rod rally's are pricey too.

  15. You're right. A 2 door would be nicer.

  16. He seems to be asking a lot. Not sure what his best price would be for a 4 door.

On Ebay, there is a runner with rot for buy-it-now for 3500, others for 1200 and $12,000 (with no bids) If you really like 58 Fords, 4 doors and the color combo, and it runs as advertised, go with, say $6000 in your pocket, start lower and vow not to hit the versiteller for more. Hard to buy a vintage clean car for much less, no matter what the make or model.

  18. What I would really like is a 58 or 59 Impala but DANM! $$$
And of course a 59 Caddy rag top. Red with white interior please.

I stand corrected. To revise my answer, don't buy it.....the price is too high. Better?

I say thats high. Primarily because its a 4 door. A buddy of mine bought a 59 4 door for less than 4 grand. Ultimately it comes down to what its worth to you. Beautiful car though.

  22. Maybe that's why he sounded so excited when I called him asking about her.

There aren't too many of those in what seems to be great shape. Most I see are rusty as hell. See if he'll do something on the price, but I don't think its too bad if the car is as good as it looks.

  24. If your asking for opinions, you don't really want it. Buy a car that you want or you'll be trying to sell it in 9 months or a year....and 4 doors are NOT easy to sell.

I'm on the other side of the fence. Depending how rust free it is and nice the interior is then yes it would be worth that much. I also like 4 doors and don't think I'll own a 2 door again, but will never say never. That's the same price a Tri-5 Chevy 4 door would go for, so yes, being a Ford it could be a little high but that all depends on the condition. I wouldn't let my 56 4 door go for under $5500 and she still needs work. 4 door car prices have gone up in the past few years, almost doubled since 2001. In 2001 I bought a 4 door parts car for the 56 4 door I had at the time. I paid $500 for it, took the parts I needed off of it and sold it for $550. That same car now would go for ~$1500 in the condition I bought it in as it was pretty complete.

I prefer 57's to 58's but it is a nice looking car. Knowing what is underneath is more important than body beauty. The price is a little steep, and for that price you need to have it gone over pretty well. If everything checks out, and you like it, then buy it.

But be careful, a friend bought a 59 Olds off ebay and while it looked good it had a lot of below the surface problems and it cost him a lot to get it right.

I like the car and it does look exceptionally clean but I still think the price is a little high.

That doesn't mean you couldn't offer him less. If you like it, tell him you'll give him $6500 and see what he says. Maybe 7K.

I know to a lot of guys that seems like a lot of money but if the car is as clean as it looks it might be worth it. Sure, maybe you could get one on eBay for $3500, but with pits in the chrome, blackwall tires, seat covers, ect. Might be worth it to spend a bit more on a car that's exceptionally clean. Of course I'm ***uming that this '58 is as nice as it looks, and maybe it's not.

If he won't come down from his asking price, I'd look around elsewhere. There's a lot of cars availible right now especially if you're open to oddballs and you have cash money ready to buy.
