Its not what you think. I'm talking late 30's thru early 40's fenderless cars. Is it possible to build one fenderless and make it look cool, but not like a vintage stock car? Why? Because I'm a big guy, 6'6" and 300 lbs. and I LOVE the look of fenderless A's, T's and 33's and 34's. (I don't like 32's, don't ask why) I figure the bigger, body styles might be doable fenderless if you plan it out. Any pics, or too off topic? thanks John
This was a 37 Pontiac 4dr sedan, as you can see I have made a few mods. This is a shot of a mock up for measurements for the new frame.
not too long ago I saw a '36 Ford coupe with no front fenders but had hood sides and partial inner fenders, looked like the SoCal VW beetle cars.
Googled for some, found a lot of glass 37's that are too high tech for me. Like to see some more traditional ones.
I'm sure it may be possible to do a fenderless 37-48 Ford and not have it look like a morphoditic VW bug or something and I'd like to see it done. Go ahead, give it a go!
Fenderless cars sould only be done with cars that are '35 have and older. Never ever with anything newer, especially a '40s "Fat Fender", thet just aint traditional! With that said here's some pics of my truck...
You might want to look at 33-34 Buick and Olds, if you can find one. I had a 34 Olds 3 window coupe and the thing was huge inside. I didn't finish the car but I think it would of looked OK fenderless. The only problem is like all the early Fisher bodied cars they're framed with wood.
It's like you said, the post 34 cars w/o fenders have a tendancy to look like stock cars(or RR's).There are some that I have seen that defy that to a degree.Went through my pic's and came up with a few.Hope they help.
The very first hot rod I ever saw in my life was a 36 Ford coupe with no front fenders and bobbed rear fenders. I was about 12 at the time and it was parked at an ice cream shop where our band bus stopped for a bite to eat after the game. While everyone else was eating I was glued to that car and was hooked for life on hot rods. As ugly as it might sound, it really made a very cool looking car. It had a flathead in it with headers and homemade side pipes, no front fenders, no hood, black primer paint job with wide whites and red wheels and caps. I've never seen another one done like that in all these years, but really liked that one. Wish I had a camera with me back then. Don
Thanks for the pics Slick. I really like the last one in first grouping (except for the round window) and a few in the 2nd group with the ww's work too.
Awsum !!! I like this style of car, yes the old modified stock car look. That is traditional styling to me. Keep the pictueres coming !!
Posies. I think this is late 40's, not sure exactly the year, but I think it's cool and might inspire some ideas.
