Hey, I hope this isn't mistaken as a cl***ified. Lots of you guys know that I am a big fan of Hurst re-cap Cheater slicks, and have indeed been a minor dealer for them for quite awhile. Well, if you have been following the board, there has been a couple threads about whether they are going to be able to get back to business or not. Because of this situation, (and the fact that I intend to drive the bucket to L.A.R.S.!) I have started talking with Towel City Re-Caps on the east coast. Everybody that seems to use their stuff raves about them, and I can tell ya they are great guys to deal with. The shipping to Phoenix though is a deal killer. So, I arranged a special deal with them to get truck freight shipping pricing for a multiple buy type situation. I met my quota yesterday and placed my order. It won't be able to ship until Tues or Wed. Here's the deal. If you need 'em, call me at 602 881 0175. I can add your pair onto the order and the shipping will get even cheaper! At this point just off of guestimated prices we are already saving almost 100.00 per pair on shipping. The more pairs that leave next week the cheaper they will get to us. Now, let me be perfectly clear on this so that nobody thinks I am misusing the board. I am not making any profit from this deal. The tires will be sold at the web sight's price. I just simply needed mine and couldn't see paying the shipping for one pair, so I silver tongued my way into this deal. If ya need 'em, call me - Chip
Back when I lived in Phoenix there was a re-capper there that my dad bought tires from, and I think they were on the west side of Maryvale. It's be good if you could get them made up locally & put the Quinn name on them.
Ya, as far as I know they aren't around anymore. At one point back in the sixties and seventies, there was a recapper on Van Buren at about 24th street by the mental hospital.... HHHHHMMMMNNNNNN. Problem is though, they would need the special mold to create the actual vulcanization and pie crust sections. It has crossed my mind to contact Cody up at Hurst and see if they are intending to sell their molds and such...
With modern CNC, molds can be duplicated right from the scan of an antique tire, made geometrically exact with 3D computer modeling, and carved out of solid metal by robot (CNC) labor. 'Course a human hand has to make up the bolsters, weldment, etc & after machining, do the final polishing. Robots I've met don't see as well as humans, but maybe they even polish things today. I can't say as It's been 20 yeas since I wrote CNC code for a living.
I don't live to far from Towel City Recap and they are everything their web site says they are. Most of us in this area have run their street recaps at one time or another and TCR always satisfied their customers. I have seen some of their caped slicks on hotrods in my area and everyone seems to be satisfied with them. God speed with your endeavor..........................
Without being gossipy, what happened with Cody? I was at their place and picked up tires a couple years ago.
The story I hear is that they were rather abruptly faced with a lease termination back in March or so, and have yet to find a suitable new location to work. I am really hoping that is the case, and that they will be back in operation soon, as I really like their product, and two nicer guys in this deal I don't believe I have ever met.
Yes, Steve and Cody lost their lease. Property owner didn't even give them a chance to renew; just gave them a deadline to move. Cody is working elsewhere now, and Steve still wants to get another place and restart the business. Haven't heard how that's going yet.
I've been wishing we'd loose our lease. I hate the building we're in & just looking for an excuse to move the whole company.
