I'm working on a 1948 chevy fleetline i'm swopping the rear to a 1979 firebird but i want to convert them to disc brakes any ideas on the best one to use
would the late 70s early 80s cadilacs fit the bill... I think they are a 5 on 5 pattern.. ?? caliper bracket looks to be part of the heavy backplate, might be a pbolt in .. but cant say for sure ..
use the early nova or 67 69 camaro rear they fit better as for brakes 78 up seville 79 up eldo or riv they aalmost bolt rite on even has an e brake
All 1980 Indy pace cars and 81 Nascar T/A's had factory disk in the rear.they was used alot on the 80 (TURBO) T/A's also not all but alot.so look for the offset buldge on the hood.also they were 8.5 posi's(limited slip).they also had a smaller brake booster on the 4 wheel disk brake cars. just a little bigger than say the mustang II's so the brake booster master cyl/ and the proportioning valve will work on your firewall.also the brake pedal from the same car will work out for the inside.I have a 46 stylemaster and I've done checked into the same swap.I think it would work out real nice.the Nascar you will not find I wouldn't think, but the pace cars are still around and easy to find(somewhat)hope this helps
Plus the Seville is 5 on 4 3/4 just need to grind the axle hub a bit to fit into the hat of the rotor and change the clocking of the bolt holes on the caliper bracket
Keep in mind, if you're using a Firebird rearend, the donor cars equipped with the "WS6" option had factory disc brakes stock.
