Hey guys,I'm having a problem how figure out the back window cuts if somebody could give me some advice i would really appreciate it,I'm chopping the car 2'' vertical.I'm including a pic of a couple lines drawn out on the car should i cut A line? or B line? or should i do something different? and should i cut C line on the bottom of the window crease and where should that line intersect with or move the line up towards the bottom of window and cut there? Thanks Dave
cant see your lines very well, but you need to be careful of that brace just above the rear window opening itself. Cut just past that. I would say about 1/2in or so so you have a way to attach it to the roof later. At least for mock up to see what you are doing with it and if the height is what you were after. Guess I should have asked first, but are you leaving the rear window and just leaning it forward? Or are you going to cut it out and move it up into the roof a bit to locate it higher?? Or are you going for something sort of like this one??
Well it should not be cut in that area at all, you should cut the entire rear window out in my opinion but really if you are just doing 2" you can probably get away with cutting around the rear window and letting it hinge at the bottom near the trunk, and lay it down, now the rear of the top area.....you need to cut your side glass out for the most part and lay it to the side, then make a small cut up into the crown of the roof a few inches right about 2" behind the b pillar to let the crown of the roof relax a bit because you want the crown to be over your head for the most pleasing profile, then you cut your 2" or whatever you have your heart set on, now you have to decide if this is going to be 2" vertical, or 2" material chop, because that is a big difference, however 2" is not much of a chop either way, but go ahead and do your chop now, then cut the b pillar section of your side rear window at this time and bend it downward to make it fit the profile of the roof and its new line now that you have relaxed the roof after cutting up into it just behind the b pillar, once you get the side window fit then you can move on to the door and the A pillar, you either have to lay the A pillar back in more of a bonneville style chop or in this mild of a chop if will likely come very close to lining up because you layed the back glass down when you hinged it so the entire roof was moved forward, that inturn moved your A pillard forward on the top so when you cut your section out of them they likely came really close to lining up with the lower section of the A pillars on the car. Now about the only this left is the B pillar, and what you want to do with it, if you want to slant it you will pretty much have it where you want it now, if you want it straight then you will have to do some trimming on the roof section and moving around there to get it back in place. Now I am sure I just confused the shit out of you but as you are chopping your car if you will kinda referr back to this and think hard it will start making since to you. If you need any more help PM me and I will give you my phone number and help ya out all I can. Jim
Thanks so much Jim for your advice, already cut above the back window from left to right 3'' from the top of the back window i hope i didn't screw up by doing that?
