Hi all, in need of a bit of advice on making my '51 into a taildragger, I have a four bar kit but he bags that came with it only have about 4 inches of drop and at ride height I need to get my back end down 11inches.

Firstly I'm in the UK so getting bits over is a real pain, so I'm going to make my c notches as to buy the gambino ones and have them shipped will be the best part of 500 bucks, can anyone let me know how big I need to make the notches out of 3/16 plate, and can you get airbags with such a big drop? How do you guys do it and get a good ride height, my bag plates are the over axle type. Will a 4-5 inch drop give more at the very back of the car?.

I know there is a ton of info on here but just need to filter it to my needs as can't see anything on getting it so low with good ride height.

Thanks all hope alls good in the HAMB!!!

    Jason.

    Jason,
If you want the rear of your car to lay on the ground you have a lot of work ahead of yourself but more power to you. First with your car on flat ground, measure from the rear rocker panel behind the rear tires to the ground. This will tell you how much the car needs to lower. This is how much your axle will need to move upwards. Add about an 1" and that's how tall your notch needs to be. From there you can figure the standard 5-6" air bag is 3" collapsed and 10-11" expanded. You will need to account for this as you build the brackets for the bags. Bagged placed over the axle will only move the car up and down the travel of the bag. If you mount the bag on the 4 link bars you will get more lift than the bag due to geometry. Over the axle is easier but has less lift. My car lays frame and still has plenty of clearance when aired up. Good luck and have fun.
