Hot Rods NEED SOME ADVISE

I need to radius the rear wheel wells on my 57 Ranchero g***er. So the question is because of the shape of the rear wheel housing what do you recommend? I want to run a slightly reversed wheel and a 10 inch slick ;wheels will be 8.5 inches wide. If you have done one and have pictures please share. Thank you

 

I did one back before the day of Digi camera's so no photos. What I did was cut above the Factory reveal and took a section out of the flat section of the Quarter. Then hand built the bottom front corner to remove the slight hook. Here are some photos of kind of the same treatment on a little newer car not H.A.M.B. friendly. Photos are just for a reference.
You can see the ridge here just above the wheel opening and extends to the door opening. I kept that accent line much like you have on your 57 and just moved it up.

Well worth the effort to keep the factory accent lines. The 57 Ford really doesn't do well just making a round hole around the tire.
If interested I can tell you how to put a 12" wide tire under a 57 without cutting any body sheetmetal or modifying the Frame rails and not go outside the body panel. You could sit it on the ground or go Sky High.

Don't get me wrong. There's cut then there's cut but in the theme of things a clean cut is all that's needed to be a G***er. They were not meant to be perfect but I do appreciate good metal work when it's warranted.

 

Also, so you know there is a piece of 1/2" X 1" .065 Rectangle tube welded into the body panel so it isn't a Flexi Flyer and or a sharp edge for opening your hand, arm or a very expensive Tire.

1/2" steel tubing or 1/4" steel rod for G***er's

 

My thought, were I doing this project, would be to entirely remove the shaped section of the lower rear quarter and replace it with a new panel made to fit. There may even be a readily available 'patch panel' from another make or model that would be a good fit with minor tweaking. Further, in my opinion, the new, rounded wheel opening would look best with a flared edge.

I did mine by 90 degree bending some 20ga so that it was 3/4"x1/2" and several feet long. I then used a stretcher to give it the radius that I wanted. next, I marked it on the quarter, allowed for enough material to be bent out for the flare and then trimmed the quarter. once it was welded and ground, it is very similar to a factory arch with the same lip.

 

Nicely done, well executed, I could live with that. Good eye appeal as well.
