Need some help with 1965 phone #

    I have no idea why I still remember it, but our phone number when I was growing up was 499-1J3. It was on a party line and when the phone rang 3 times it was for us, if it ran once or twice it was for one of our neighbors. You would pick up the phone to use it and one of the other people would be talking so you would hang up, and if you didn't, and listened in, they would yell "get off the phone !" :D Today who would put up with sharing your phone line with a couple of neighbors, but back then it was all we had.

    I agree, pic a number not in service...but determine what exchange words were used in the physical vicinity of the shop's location.

    Here in Milwaukee, BRoadway was used for downtown numbers, whereas BLuemound was on the west side and LIncoln was on the southwest side. Today they are 27, 47 and 54, respectively.

    Cool idea, BTW.
