Hi, Old Man ( Michael ) here from down under. I have been trying unsuccessfully to find a post on building an Á'model ch***is from scratch, using 4x2 RHS. I remember reading the post several times over the past years, but I cannot find it now. Also, there was also an excellent article on building a 32 frame, by a different member. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I want to build a RPU for my oldest grandson ( now 15 years, two year build, then get his license) Also will be visiting USA for the first time in late may/ all of June this year. In California, we will fly in on Sunday, 29 may, spend until Tuesday morning in LA, then I was going to trip around between Orange County up to midway between LA and San Francisco, until Fri, then head off to Williams. Mainly touring around and stopping were we please, just to check out the rod scene. After 65 years I think I have earned it. Wife said Ok but she gets to check out the shops later. Thanks for looking. Michael
I have made a few. Started with the Wescott drawings and mapped that out on the garage floor (mine was 99.9% flat and level thanks to a good concreter who knew what I wanted and why.) Anyway, cut and welded the side profile tapers, took a pattern off a stock frame and made the horns (you can by repro off Rod-tech), then cut for the kink in the plan-form. I add a 4: kick in the back and a repro A front x-member and take it from there centre x-member wise depending on drivetrain. Any welding was done up off the ground on levelled jackstands very well weighted down. No issues.
