Hey HAMB, Helping a friend of mine on his 59 Sedan deVille. He is looking to buy a Hydramatic trans he found on Craigslist (with the 390 still attached) but the trans in the pictures the seller sent him looks different from the trans in his car. I posted this pic of the tag on the trans he is looking to buy. I don't know how to read this tag and I was wondering if I a Caddy guy on here could tell me about it. As always, I appreciate the help. My roommate believes the transmission in his car was from a 63 Cadillac, if that were the case, would they look physically different? Would they be interchangable?
I had a feeling that is what that meant. I am assuming then explains why it appears so different, and also assuming that it isn't a bolt in swap for the 59 Hydramatic?
somebody (i think Bendtsen's? ) makes an adaptor to attach a TH400 or 700R4 to the back of 1955-62 Cadillac engines, about $450,and then whatever a TH400 or 700R4 costs on top of that. it costs about $2000 to rebuild the original trans, and it's not worth it or you can do what i'm doing, and buy a used 1959-62 (1956-7-8 are junk) Controlled-Coupling Hydramatic cheap and hope that it works
is your friend in need of a caddy hydramatic? I have one I took out of a 55 caddy and might want to sell it. thanks, Bob
