No offense but, who cares what you do with it? In Michigan we'd use it as a winter beater. Ain't worth "fixin' up". A guy goes in to an auto parts store and says "how about a pair of windshield wipers for my rice burner?" The clerk thinks for a second and says "ok, sounds like a fair trade".
Just in case you are serious... Judging from the wheel covers, I'm assuming it isn't a turbo model. If it isn't, drive it as a winter beater, as said before. If it DOES have the turbo, spend $500-$600 and run mid 13's all day long. But there really isn't any way to class it up.
It is a turbo and he has the boost upto 15 psi plus alot of other hop ups. He use to race in SCCA, so this was his race car. Interior is striped, so some of it I'll have to put back in. This is pretty darn quick. I drove it some last winter in the snow and he had the boost turned down to 10 and it was PLENTY quick for me. The reason for the car is to save the 56 from the snow/salt.... I'm just not a ricer type of guy so I wanted some ideas to try and lessen the typical Ricer look.... Red rims and baby moons?
To save the 56 from the perils of winter weather, I'd just keep gas in the tank and drive it. Sell it in the Spring and put the cash into the cool 56...you can always score another dirt cheap or free beater NEXT fall!

[/ QUOTE ] I tried that idea last year, but money was so darn tight it didn't happen....same thing this year. I figured if I get it I'd keep it around as a spare car. Heck the wife's car is an '85 Eagle wagon that is tempermental.
Ya'll know what, I have almost had it with this BB. All of you are so freak'n (<-- edited) negative. I was wanting some ideas because some of you guys are true artists. HE may be giving me the car to save the 56 from the snow/salt.....damn I kinda think that is a good idea, don't you. I ask a simple question and get the politacal BS. Lets see some of you jokers drive your rod/custom in the snow and salt all winter! It did alot of damage to the 56 and I don't want to do it again.
So you want some of the 'artist' to waste there time on a car that your just going to use as a winter car?..Makes even more sense ... Why not just leave it the way it is,,,drive the hell out of it,,,work on the 56,,,and then post some pics that we care to look at! I understand what your saying and think your taking things a lil' to personal...but come on, you had to known some dirt was going to come at you posting that thing Now can I buy ya drink?? Dirty
In my meaningless opinion, dont do anything to it. Make it road worthy to get you to point B and back to A. Tires, wipers, heater, defroster, whatever. Spend your $$$$ on the 56 and just drive this thing when you cant drive the 56. If you are driving in crappy conditions you dont want to do a lot of mods because the time and $$$you put into it will go to crap. Maaco the car and call it done
Come on guys, you know what to do to it. . Lower it, paint it a nicer shade of flat black and paint the factory steel rims red.... and then put some pin stripping on it..
I don't think anyone was attacking you for wanting to save your car from snow and salt, and there's nothing wrong with acquiring a decent winter beater from a friend... ...but this simply isn't the group of people best suited to discuss late models with. Besides, with cash being tight (and I KNOW how you feel!), it doesn't make sense to trick out a free beater anyway. You gotta do what ya gotta do to survive and get by, and wanting to do that while helping to preserve your 56 is cool and a wise choice...but I think your friends here just don't want to see you get sidetracked with something that will eat up money and time that you could use to make further improvements to your cool cruiser 56! A few posts showed some humorous phot-hacking on the car in question, and the laughs have been had. Don't take it as a personal attack on you...it's just that the people here are more interested in your 56 than the beaters. (For what it's worth, I've always driven my various project cars through the winter. Most times it was because I didn't HAVE another car handy...but it's also because my philosophy is that I won't own any ONE car forever...so I just enjoy them while I do have them. I'll never live long enough to own or build EVERY car I really want...so I get as much seat time in them before moving on to the next project! Michigan winters are hard on old steel..but I sort of like fish-tailing down a snow covered road just before dusk with the heater and tunes cranknin' as a fresh snow falls....before the salt trucks turn it all to slush!!) Ever seen MY econo-beater, though? You won't, unless it happens to be in person...I think that's the point that these guys were trying to make. I dig your old Chevy, and I really like the new black look you've given it. Keep on making it better and getting it closer to what YOU want it to be, and you'll find all the help you need right here, I'm sure!
...basically...if you have to drive a late model...no problems do it, it obviously makes sense in your situation but....don't see why it has to posted here. Stick a sticker on it...i just dont care. MAIKI
