So i work on motorcycles all the time, but i am completely new to car ignition systems. i have a AV8 roadster. i just finished wiring everything up and apparently i have missed something. i am running the stock distributor with a pertronix kit. I have a brand new coil on the car. I have 12 volts going to the positive side of the coil from the igniton switch. then the pertronix kit had two wires, one supposed to go to the positive side of the coil and the other to the negative side. Does the negative side of the coil need to be grounded? does the coil itself need a good ground? Other than the wires listed, there is nothing else attached. Any help is greatly appreciated, i sure would like to hear her run.

it would run just would come off timing as soon as you hit the gas. (wouldnt advance the timing)

ok, ill run to the parts store and get the points and get the vaccum diaphram on the way, . . . unless anyone else has some insight. do i need to run a condensor with the points? i was told if i wasnt using many electronics, i shouldnt need one??? thanks

well i say if someone can get the electric ignition working go for it, but having points helps find out whats wrong if you ever break down. you should run a condenser(mounts on the coil i believe) you will also want to run a ballast resistor in between the ignition and the coil, and also run an other wire from the "start" poll on your ignition to the coil. that way you will have full 12 volts at startup, and then the ballast resistor will kick it down slightly while it runs.
