My other post fell off fast and was a different question, but same topic. Merc 383s. I'm thinking hard on whether or not to try and get this engine. My question is: Do they share architecture with a more common engine, or are these like 348/409 chevys? Am I gonna have hell trying to get it to work with other trans, intakes, etc? I'd like to have a manual trans, not the merc-o-matic it comes with. Is this gonna be possible?, or does the bellhousing pattern make it a pain to install a manual trans?

They are like the 348/409 ... oddball. Don't share anything good except the bell pattern ... Shares the bellhousing bolt pattern with the FE. Not sure how much trouble it is to put a manual tranny behind it though.

    Read this-MEL info post

The first half of the thread will confuse you with FE stuff. Skip down to Blownolds' post for the MEL info.

#SPAM# I have a Weiand 6x2 intake and an early Ford tranny adapter. #SPAM#

    Sorry 'bout that. [IMG]
