Got two pieces of sheet metal that will soon be a roof filler and a deck lid, wanted to get them louvered while they're still in sheetmetal form. Where is the best place to go?Thanks
i don't want to come off like an ass here, but... why can't you just go to any old sheetmetal joint that makes airconditioning housings or similar? they louvre the shit out of everything! surely it'd be cheaper to sling one of the floor guys a slab of beer than to get a 'name' like gene winfield to do it. PARTICULARLY if it's still just sheetmetal... just a thought.
That number for Vaughn may still be good, but the address is different. He moved from the Pomona Ave bldg to the old bldg on Myrtle just north of Foothill. Why? Youve never noticed a difference in louvers?? Kinda like "Its just a '32 ford. Isnt that the same as a '32 Kaiser??". I guess we now know whose car that is with the louvers like the side of a swamp-cooler.

[/ QUOTE ] That's al fine and dandy but after it's all done and only the story telling is left to be done, telling the tale about driving out to the beautiful California desert, next to E Mirage, in the spring when the wild flowers are blooming instead of dead weeds, and having Gene Winfield do your louvers will be a much better tale then explaining tht each row of louvers got worse and worse because the guy you got to do them "in the back door" was consuming the "slab of beer" as he was punching them.
[ QUOTE ] I know a guy in Lancaster that does them. If you need his number let me know [/ QUOTE ] Hey Satinblack. I'll take the lancaster number if you have it handy. I'm hoping by the end of summer to get some done on my hood. Thanks, Eric(59ford)
I had Gene Winfield louver the hood of my 55 when he was still in the Valley. His layout was spot on plus it was a thrill to see and then own some of his work. A true living legend!
just make sure that you get someone to do it that has done work on cars before. the guythat did my bonnet and tailgate normally does work on the industrial side of things but had done a few race cars in his past. he took his time and each louvre (over 200 in each panel) is lined up to within half a millimetre. nothing worse than looking out your windscreen and seeing a row of louvres that lokk like a dogs hind leg! craig
