I bought this kit from a place here in town and well I didn't look it over too quick until today. It turns out that the valve that goes down in the end of the cylinder is not exactly the same. The piston in the kit is the right bore and everything else looks correct. The new valve (tea strainer thing) has clips which attach it to the spring. When I put it on like that and the seal in the end of the MC it completely block off the flow to the system. When I put it all togeher it seems real hard to push, as if it can't push air through the valve and around the seal at the end. The old valve sat in the spring and faced backwards from how this one sits. The holes on it are away from the seal and only the rim of it sits on the seal itself.

Is this a new type of valve? I'm thinking it might push fluid around kind of like a check valve, but the the spring would have to let up a bit to let anything back into the MC. Here's a pic of some of the parts. What do you guys think?

have you tried it with the valve inserted 'backwards'?

It's just not made to go in there backwards. It has clips to attach to the spring and a sharp edge that both would just cut into the seal, not to mention it wouldn't seal, if it was supposed to.
