Ok so here is my dilemma, I have 275/60/15 Hercules HP4000's all the way around. The front of course no problem, I could sit my son on top of that and he wouldnt rub. The rear however I get a slight rub on the side of the tire under light to heavy load. If i go over the right bump on street it will rub. You can see a slight rubbing mark all the way around the sidewall towards the upper part. I only need to gain 1"- 2" at most. As I said if no load I am fine I have close to an inch clearance. The other day I loaded it with mulch bags and low and behold tire burning smell arghhh. I have gone to 4 wheel parts and offroad here locally and they told me that they dont carry leafs as smal as mine that I may need to go to a leaf manufacturer to custom arch or make me some. I was thinking adding aleaf or two would fix. I also thought of shock upgrades but I also been told that wont do anything for it as far as helping the drop with light load. I already have good condition shocks back there. Does anyone have any other suggetions? Oh yeah as far as the rubbing you can not miss it its the upper section of the fender because it is smeared with black magic and yellowish black magic after the mulch incident
This forum is the place to introduce yourself but to help out a fellow Houstonian I will share the following as this will probably get moved to the correct location. What rear axle do you have in the truck? Is this a step side bed? Although I am sure someone will disagree I believe the 275 tire is too wide to run inside stepside fenders without rubbing either against the bedside or the fender lip without modifications to either. The rule of thumb I use for tire fitment is to keep at least 1" from the side wall to any surface. Depending on your axle width, rim width, back spacing, and tire width when mounted on your rim you may be able to use some spacers to gain some air between the tire and the bed but that may create a problem on the outer sidewall instead. Most tire manufacturers post their tire sizes based on rim width on their websites. Find this information and research a solution. The outside width of a Chevy stepside bed is 50". Once you get your axle width, tire width and rim dimensions you should be able to math it out.
