It's a Fairlane 500 and if I'm not mistaken it's top of the line in '59, Galaxie came out in '60. I agree that it's not a hot rod, as a gasser it would look like shit but lowered a few inches, custom wheel covers and you'll have a sweet cruiser...
here's the criteria I use. What is what I have worth right now in today's dollars, and what is the proffered trade worth same scale. Then, what will what I have be worth in five years and same question for the trade. In other words, the Sportster is in a value death spiral, the Ford is not. It will likely always be worth what it is worth today, so the trade would be a beneficial one for you, not so much for the guy that's going to get the bike. It's a great bike, but it is depreciating....the Ford has already depreciated and has actually enjoyed an upswing (condition for its age) in value. Make the trade as soon as you can.
I would keep the bike and look for a 2 door. OR take the 4 door and 1500, then sell the 4 door for 3500 and use the full 5000 and buy something cool.
i started a thread afew years ago about 4 drs called cool 4 drs it,s pretty big and it has a few 59 ford 4 drs in it check it out
It's got 4 doors so the snooty 4 door haters just have to get their 2 cents worth in,,personally I would trade in a skinny minute. HRP
TRADE!! You will get a lot of fun out of that car. If you decide you want a 2 door down the line you can always sell it or trade it. This could be a quick and painless way to get into the car hobby.
I would sell the bike and pick something up you REALLY want. If this car turned your crank, it would already be in your garage. You wouldn't be asking for advice (or approval).
4 doors are fine till it comes time to sell.... Keep the Sporty until tax refunds start comming in and put it on the market then it will sell my 2 cents lol
In Wisconsin the weather is not the best for bikes. What do you get 4 to 5 month's a year to ride? The car has a heater, windshield, Wipers, roof, If you have kid's there in backseat, also much less chance of road rash. mmmmmmm what to do? Only you know what is right for you,But I'd be driving the wheel's off that Ford!
that's a no brainer trade it in ten years the sporty ain't gonna be worth much but the ford will keep gaining value
I think both are probably worth as little as they ever will be. Both are worth about 4k around here. The sportster won't come back up though. Both have a lot of potential. If I wanted a car, I'd trade, slam it and ride! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
man you got a pattern working here---sporty's are fine till its time to sell---4 doors are ok till it's time to sell----you will never escape geekdom with a 4 door---how many threads on here about tuning 2 doors into 4 doors ?---- it's harsh guys but give grandma her car back---case closed
Supposed to be getting a walk around video of the car. I think that should help me swing one way or the other. I appreciate all your comments. I can always count on the HAMB!
I wouldn't even consider it....I would sell the bike and then buy the car if I wanted it....which I don't. That way you would be money ahead.
As someone mentioned, wait till spring and sell the bike, you'll get more money that the sedan is worth.
Still waiting on the video of the car, anyone else want to weigh in? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I wouldn't trade unless it's really what you want. Sell the bike and use the cash to find what you really want. Cash talks. The bike would be an easier sell than a 4 door.
