I replaced the stock closed drive shaft rear on my 49 Buick years ago and replaced it with an 89 Caprice rear. Wanted an open drive shaft. The trailing arms that clamp onto the axle housing on each side were from the 49 grafted to the front half of the ones on the Caprice. Shocks are now catching on bumps on both sides where they attach to the trailing arms. Need to move them to the inside of the trailing arm where they clamp to the axle housing. I no longer have the stock rear end and I need the dimension of the stock axle housing on either side to make a new spacer to go between the newer 89 Caprice axle housing and the stock trailing arm that attaches to the Caprice rear end.
Hope someone might have a stock rear end and can put a caliper on the axle and give me the measurement. Late 40' or early 50's Buick rear ends are likely the same.
