Hahaha. I've been waiting for almost two weeks for something I bought on ebay. Kicker is, the item is located about 2 hours from me. I chose to pay for shipping because I haven't had time to drive there...oh well. One time I spent about $3k with a reputable company. After a couple emails and a month of no parts and no response I wrote a real hatefull email. Shortly after, I read on a forum the owner just found out that his mother (living in another state) had become terminally ill and didn't have much time left. Needless to say, I wrote an apology email. He replied within a week saying no problem and sorry on his behalf and I recieved my parts in a couple days. ...lesson learned.
Hahaha... Really if that's all that happen during your build , well guess what you had a great build !
Most everything you order today is "drop shipped". I bought a necklace for the wife for her birthday, the damn thing was drop shipped from London! Needless to say, it was late getting here for the B-day.
I would have went to a local parts house like a NAPA. Unless you're out in the middle of nowhere they'll be able to get the parts for a vehicle this common and simple. I buy parts for my '48-49 Ford truck, 1/2 and 3/4 ton, never have been able to stump them yet. If they don't have the part they'll get it usually by the next day. No major wait and if it turns out to be the wrong part I have some one in person to bitch to and have it made right ASAP, no waiting to get it, waiting to return it and waiting for the hopefully correct part to come in.
Cool. Stay on it to make sure its heading your way. He could have generated one and not actually sent anything... that way it would say "billing information received." Hopefully it comes when he said it will.
He thinks thats bad, at least he can get the parts, I wouldn't buy a new Honda, but it's really fun getting parts for an old one, when no one makes them. I probably have 40 different projects going. stuff gets here when it gets here, I always have stuff to do, but now no time to do it.
Years back we were working on a 67 camaro. Clock in the center console was not operating. Classic Industries had one in catalog. New quartz clock with exact reproduction face and everything. Thought perfect we will order it and move on. HA! One week later I called and asked where the part was. Said it hadn't shipped yet it was on backorder. Ok no biggie just wished you would have said that in the beginning. One month later I called and check. Still on backorder. Three months later I called and asked how much longer will it be on back order. Said it would ship within a couple of weeks. No biggie we were still long ways from completing the work. six months later i called and asked what was going on with the part. It had been six months. Said it would ship soon. I said no way let me talk to your manager. Manager finally told me they had just put the design in the catalog and was waiting to get enough orders in to actually get the part made. In other words if enough people didn't want it they were going to cancel everything. Took 1 year from the time we ordered it to get it. 1 YEAR. I wasn't as mad about waiting the year (not my car) as I was about the lying and stringing along that they did. Due to that I quit ordering from them for a while and went elsewhere. Would have been nice for them to have been honest with their policy so I didn't waste all that time calling and wondering.
How bout posting some pictures of the work Gene did for you. Even legends need to be kept honest. Frank
Same problems with Jim Carter Chevrolet Parts, order and no delay times given, in fact after repeated delays, I started asking what they had in stock so as to figure if I wanted to wait or shop elsewhere and asked for call back, ZERO ! So, I now use Chev's of the 40's with excellent service and more products to boot. I had used Carter because they were closer but with all the delays and poor service I was out! Also, I had ordered a desert cooler radiator for my '47 from then and asked before ordering if it would fit with the "modern" '59 235 with conversion water pump, "oh yes!". no dice! But being a hot rod guy, I modified a few things and it works. Customer service can demand a price and respect. Vendors, are you listening?
I wish my delays were all so short. My last big project order took two extra weeks to arrive, beyond regular shipping time, ostensibly because not everything was in stock. When it arrived, there was a back-order slip in the box for approximately 1/3 or the order. Those items, in total, took another 62 days to arrive. It seems to be the nature of the business these days. I am adjusting my business practices to accommodate.
