Pondering what style dash knobs for my traditional 32 Ford. Dice, multi colored plastic spears, round etc? Need some ideas?
You didn't say what era, but heres a couple ideas... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1940-Ford-Standard-Dash-knob-set-/161711770973?hash=item25a6c5cd5d http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-1939...ke-Throttle-/252085413853?hash=item3ab17627dd http://www.ebay.com/itm/1940-plymouth-dash-knobs-/331572792036?hash=item4d33474ae4
An 82 year old car friend that is downsizing gave me a lot of garage stuff. In one tray, I saw some various colored plastic bead things, sort of round, but facets like a jewel. I am thinking I might try those for the 40 ford dash/ ashtray knobs in my 32. I have some old red translucent lighted dash switches already, (the red knobs have bulbs in them), so I hope the red jewel beads will look OK on the ashtrays. I don't think the dice would look right, but that's my opinion I suppose if you could find some translucent colored round stock, you could shape your own style knobs with a lathe or a drillpress? I think that would look good
Any of these work for you http://m.ebay.com/itm/60-SIZES-PLAS...ACHINE-FURNITURE-ETC-/251582937978?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.com/itm/2-cabinet-pull-knobs-12-gauge-shot-gun-/181878555105?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-Ten-10-Cobalt-Blue-Gl***-Cabinet-Knobs-/231695301750?nav=SEARCH
59 Ford knobs. Ford truck bezels. Panel from True Value hardware, although it didn't look like that when I bought it. D
The round chrome 1949 Ford knobs have always looked best ,to me. Originals seem to be getting harder to come by these days. I'm sure Carpenter or someone offers a quality repo of them. They are a very clean and simple style.
49 Lincoln knob looks good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-LINCOLN-DASH-SWITCH-KNOB-VERY-NICE-ORIGINAL-/231676141014
I think I will machine some up out of stainless. I have to decide on the style, that is why I asked for ideas.
In the early fifties some Barris customs used dash knobs made out of laminated plexigl*** http://www.customcarchronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/CCC_dash_knob-Hirohata.jpg A specialty of Bob Hirohata who made them for his own Mercury and other Barris customs. Have a look at your local guitar/musical instrument shop-especially one that does repairs on site-they will have some cool knurled knobs in different shapes and finishes that look right at home on an early hot rod dash board-no kiddin'
Try searching for vintage bakelite knobs on ebay. Some pretty neat knobs were used on vintage radios and electronics.
Back in the day, you could get heavy, round chrome knobs that had several protrusions around the cir***ference. They had a set screw to secre it to the shaft. I know they were in the Whitney catalogs.
