So I just installed CPP front discs on the 54 chevy truck. My wheels no longer fit. I know I'm not the only one to run into this. The rotors are 11 3/4 dia and the caliper sits a healthy 1 1/4 off the outside of the rotor. The kit said 15" wheels would fit, but clearly they do not. What's the most inexpensive, yet correct wheels that would fit. I'm thinkin junkyard for late model 15" wheels or upgrade to 16" rims? I have to buy tires as well anyways. Any suggestions?

What 15 inch rims are you trying to use?
If they were drum brake wheels to begin with they probably won't fit but 15 inch disk brake rims should in most cases.

I was using the chrome smoothies that are on the truck in my profile picture. They were originally on drums, so I'm not too surprised. How do I tell if a wheel is for discs or drums?

You also need to be careful about the backspacing.... Many/most of the modern wheels are too wide and the backspacing is too deep so the rim hits the tie rod ends.

Thanks for the tips. I know proper backspacing and offset are important so I am being overly cautious.

  7. What's the bolt pattern, 5" x 5? If so you're probably looking to get later 15" GM wheels, anything from a full-size '71 up should clear everything. CPP should have been able to tell what wheels you need.

  8. The fronts are more critical for clearances. See my previous post, grab any junkyard wheel from a '71-80 full size GM and see how it looks. That is pretty much a generic offset, you can figure out how much you need from there.

the bolt pattern is 6 x 5 1/2". Again thanks for the responses.

  10. 6-lug? Then you need to go with anything disc brake in a stock wheel or something aftermarket.
