Hey guys, I'm tearing down my flathead and I'm trying to take the distributer off. And needless to say its being a *****. It should just pull straight out once the 2 bracket bolts are out right? Damn I'm enjoying myself. But I think I should buy stock in penetrating oil. Wade A.K.A. Bigbren
I think it does . One thing you will need is a special tool to remove the lifters and valve springs . Check here and you can find a ton of great information ! http://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...w.&fp=45b2b70f47ef0456&ion=1&biw=1263&bih=561 Jim
Here's the way I did it around 1967, after pulling, twisting and tugging and cussing and getting nowhere I decided it was time for a PBR or two and thinking up a solution so I brushed some #2 diesel around it and tapped it with a big rubber mallet,no luck.Time for more PBR and more thought and after the six pack was gone I had a brainstorm I wrapped a small chain around the distributor attached that to the cherry picker and jacked away all of a sudden she let loose after a couple more mallet smacks and went flying I had the good sense however to stand to the side so it wouldn't injure me on it's trip out,had to do the same to an FE a couple years later. This method will not be found in the Motor Manual
Thanks! I did try the PBR as well. But I will try the picker move. I even broke out the whiskey coke and no luck, Thanks guys.
