what's up fellow hambers? i'm contemplating what to do with the exterior. i'll take a quote from kelly bundy, "i'm in the horns of an enema". since many of you know kustoms better than me, i'd thought i would as you guys. what you look best in your mind? 1) '53 Buick side trim and a 2-tone paint job(body and the little section that is inside the trim) ~or~ 2) solid color paint job with flames running down the whole side of the car. i already have the side trim, but i'm leaning more toward scenario #2. if anyone wants to do a photshop feel free to do so. sorry the picture is at the greatest angle.
well, the safe bet says do the flames (you said you're leaning towards that idea) and/if you become tired or bored with it, then add the trim. obviously, if you add the trim and are not so into it, you've got holes to fill... IMHO. von tred.
Personally I hate stucco, doesn't happen around here, but flames would add class. I got some free slabwood if you want to try log siding, but then that funny lookin roof would have to be covered with tin Oh, now I see it says car. What about body flames that start out light, maybe cream and fade to red and end in the roof color, and roof flames that start out in the cream around the windshield, progressing toward black and end in the body color?
I'll be honest with you after looking hard at cole's creations I wish I wouldn't have put '56 Buick side trim on my '54. It's too late for me to fill the holes that I drilled for the trim. I was lucky I had a 150 model that had no side trim at all, I shoulda left it that way. The rear wheel bubble on Chevys is as much adornment as they need. I'm not even in favor of flames, or pinstriping for that matter. Lean, mean and clean is the way to go. I love your car.
If it were me I'd go the trim two tone route. Pigeons blood and creame. But it sounds like you are after the flamed more sinister look. Solid color top to bottom, Say white with a frog Eye perl. Then Black red tipped flames.let just a little of the white show around the grill opening. Run the flames over the hood, and down the sides to about the back edge of the doors or just a little past. nuthin on the roof. Avoid the seaweed look, go with a genuine Dutch lookin' flame only drawn out a little. IE no licks over lapping the other licks. Claws Bro.
just say no to trim, and siding... and if you are set on flames do it, but remember that alot of cars in so cal have flames and very few of them are good.
Your car is clean and smooth in that photo...shaved door handles, smoothed hood peak... ...I think ADDING chrome trim to a car in which you've made an effort to shave and remove chrome kinda defeats the purpose a little. I'm with Nads on this...clean, smooth and mean would look best on that car! I'd opt for a killer paint job and maybe include flames in your plan if you really want them...but I like the car as it sits in the photo alot...the 'flaked roof idea would work well...maybe paint the body a contrasting color other than black?

I like it as is, but I would do flames instead of trim. My humble opinion would be for "seaweed"-type flames
As much as I really like the '53 Buick trim I would say don't use it. I wanted some for my '50 Chevy, found some and when I taped it up I hated it. The big curve of the trim fought with the opposite curve of the rear fender. I do like the '55-'57 Buick trim but if you're going with flames I wouldn't do any. The trim looks great with scallops but I don't think it's so great with flames. The only trim I would suggest is spears, simlar to what would have come on it stock. You can move them up or down for a different look. Here's a photoshop version of how my car should look when finished. I'm removing the side spears and adding some simple scallops. Hey, just another opinion. Check out my web site. I have a lot of photos of '49-'52 Chevies.
I would have to say go with the flames a whole lot of them covering the whole body there is a car in an old moon catalog like that and it looks way cool just some more food for thought
first off, thanks for everyone's reply. what are seaweed flames? i've never heard of them before. i'll pass on crab claws, no offense but i think they're ugly. Nads, i totally see your point. the picture edmurder posted is a real kickass car. simple and clean makes really makes that car look killer. would a '54 spear fit on my car? if i end up putting flames on my car, the paint will be a solid suede. any suggestions on color of paint and color of flames? thanks again for all of your input.
