I've got a TF 727 in my coupe. I just found a transmission company that offers a kit (4 components) that they say will make a 727 a 518 OD transmission with the use of a lock-up converter. Can that be on the level? It seems way to good to be true, but they have been offering this kit since 2006. If it actually works, that would make my life much easier! [IMG]

I would think its on the level.

Im not real informative on them but the 727 is the basis for the 518 and 618 or 46, 47rh/re and the 48re. Looking at your signature i would call ATS diesel and talk to them, their from Colorado as well.

Im more of a diesel guy so they are more torward that side of it but might be able to help you out better. I know a lot of racers like the 47rh for the manual VB.

been a while since i fooled with one, but yes it can be done. I also remember a stall converter for the lock up trans being available at one time.

A 727 and a 518 are not the same at the back of the case so I don't know how you would bolt the overdrive section on. If your 727 is not a lockup you would have to change the torque convertor, pump, imput shaft and valvebody also.

Art Carr is the original 727 expert. I believe he is still alive and living in L.A. and working/consulting for a trans company under a different name. (He sold ORIGINAL name to a company in Texas.)
I think change is possible. He could say in an instant.

Okay, my mistake...their wording was a little confusing. This kit actually lets you install a 518 in place of a 727 with very little wiring, and no electronics needed. Sorry for the confusion. :(
