After many moons I am tearing back into my 31 AV8 project, 46 truck flathead with a Offy 3 carb manifold, full fenders, original firewall (lightly clearanced if required), mechanical fan, stock 31 grill shell & stock radiator placement are on my want list. I have a clearance issue as there is less room between the firewall & radiator then there is between the fan & rear of engine. I had plans to use the stock truck mechanical fan/pulleys & use an offset generator bracket to give the 3 carb manifold clearance as the generator interferes with the front carb but it looks like the combination will be to long. Other option is to shorten up the engine length by using a generator fan but it would interfere again with the front carb. Anybody have an answer for a 3 carb setup in a stock length engine bay? I've been looking around & not seen any 30-31 with full fenders, a flathead & 3 carbs. I'm thinking if theres a fix it would be in the fan combination, maybe a short idler/fan placed where the fan/generator combo would be & an offset generator??? Thanks for any input
I used a shortened fan/idler, single belt on my 28 it seems to work just fine, offset gen mount from Speedway, you will have to shorten the fan blades, I used the 6 blade fan off of a crank mount fan, and shortened the 3 longer blades to match the 3 short blades, a little adapting is required to mount the fan blade to the idler but does not require a machine shop.
