I need to Rochester's that will work together. Right now I have one that is supposed to be from a 60's 283 which are the first 4 pics below. Now I have a local guy that is selling some carbs for $20.00 ea. He sent me a pic of a similar carb which is the only one he has with a side fuel inlet. Now for some reason I cant seem to find another carb like mine. The one he has has the vac port and mine is a manual choke. What is the best way to go about this? Should I pick his up and find a duplicate to that one? Here is the one I have.....
I take it your running Trips! Get the carb in the pic & then you can get either a side or front inlet one for the front carb.Your not tight for space there. JimV
There are lots of variations of this carb over the years. Your mechanical choke is pretty rare. Most of them had auto chokes. I'm thinking that it was off of a truck. I could not find any documentation that listed the different years with their many differences. There were 2 different small pattern bases that complicates things even more. There were different styles of side inlets too. You really have to pay attention to the details when shopping for these carbs. I collected mine off of Ebay and I made a few mistakes in the process. I did find one manual choke model that I am using as the center carb. I plan to hook up the original manual choke cable on my 56 Ford. You don't see too many 3 deuce set ups with a manual choke. These carbs used to be giveaways but they have escalated in core prices with everyone trying to build a trips setup. PS don't trust the vendor for correct applications.
Mine look very similar to yours. They have the same markings on top, but I'm no carb. ID guru, by a long shot, and also curious of their origin.
buy it, you can allways use it for parts. like said above they're getting pricey now everyone wants them. i used to buy them for under $5 (a few years ago) now i score with one for $10-$15. before that (10 years ago) people would give em to me because i was the only one who wanted those old 2bbl's.
The only small base rochester you don't want is the emissions one with the pin sticking out the back of the main body which is a valve to let dirty air in under certain conditions. I quess you could remove the valve and plug it up, but why bother. I also seen a version with a hole drilled in the butterfly base. Another emission built in vaccum leak. Easily plugged.
