I got the 52 out for the first time today since paint and ch***is overhaul and put on about 150 miles. the first 70 miles went great and on the way back I started to have an idle issue. Idling up and down and stalling at a stop. I got her home and noticed that the back of my intake "by the dist"is really wet with oil. i checked all the no brainers, hoses, wires, vac***. I started thinking could it be that the intake is leaking in the rear and causing the up and down idle? it is a 305 stock motor that has run just fine until today. I was just hoping that maybe a new set of ideas/opinions could help me out. Thank you in advance

relpace the gasket for the intake. I had an intake that leaked from the back before, it wasnt to bad at first but ended up running like ****. But when I replaced the gaskets it was back to normal.

I calmed down a bit and took a good solid look at it. I found that my oil pressure gauge line was loose as all get out and pouring oil so i tightened that up and drove a bit, no more oil leaks at the rear of the intake. I also found that if i pull out the choke a quarter way the rough idle clears up completely. Is it possible that I got some bad gas at my last stop? Has anyone experienced the bad gas and had idle problems? thinking back through the day the idle issue started shortly after a visit to the pump in a smaller town and to my own admission i filled it up with the cheapest 89/ethanol there was. due to the fact I had already pumped 60 bucks in the tank through out the day. Also a guy told me ethanol will make my engine run hotter, I have never heard of that. Any truth to that tale?

Check your PVC also, my SBF had similar symptoms, and I had just replaced the intake. It turned out you could watch the intake gasket at the back pulsing with pressure, I fixed the PCV issue and it quit leaking... It also had an idle problem while the PVC was obstructed.
