Ed the grumpy retired school teacher neighbor/lawn nazi was a little PO'd when we woke him from his evening nap while dialing in the ole 302 with open headers. I guess I better get that exhaust system fab'd up!!

    Oh well!!

A friend of mine races a 700 plus cubic inch pro-mod Camaro that he keeps in his very suburban neighborhood and does occasionally fire it after making a change or two. He is not very well liked by a few of the crabs. Boy is it loud at 9:00 pm!

I just got yelled at by my neighhbor. And my car has a real muffler and is very quiet. I'm the youngest in the neighborhood, and get blamed for all the noise, weather its my fault or not.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Brett, you haven't achieved anything until you've had the cops called on you at least 10 times though....keep trying! Someday you might catch up :p

I had a nieghbor like that, actually he is still my nieghbor, he's just not like that anymore. Way back when, he would yell over the fence, then built a taller one. He would gripe to the other nieghbors etc. etc.

Then once I got the thing where I could drive it I pulled around to the front of the house. He was outside watering the yard and giving me a funny look. I stopped and yelled at him to climb in and we'd go for a spin!

He did, and years later he still will walk over to the shop about once a week and check out whats going on. Even given me a set of dollies and a couple of hats.

Like my Grandma said "You catch more flies with honey than with viniger!"

There was some teenage hollagan in my neighborhood with a roadrunner with a 396 in it, down the block from me when I was a kid. All the adults hated that guy,...but listening to him rev that lump at night inspired me and he was my hero for ******* all the "adults" off.

Well I tell ya, I was on the Penn State University 1/4 scale tractor pulling team, where we basically stretch out a lawn mower chasis to 8 foot long, and use an 18 horse stock briggs and stratton to pull an inclined sled in compe***ion against other universitys.

We had jsut got our tractor running, one night around 11pm, and we had to go try it out, in the fresh snow in the parking lot.

Now our shop is next to The North Residence Halls... and well, we got away with doing donust and the like until about midnight.. now mind you, we run strait pipes, duals, off of the 2 cylinder engine, and made chrome stacks that reverbed real good..

Around midnight, wouldn't ya know it, in comes campus police! seems we woke up some of the sleeping students! hahahhaha.. The cop flew up and told us to shut down, the driver said no, i can't it woun't start again, and then reved up the tractor and flew to the garage... haha, we were so proud of ourselfs that night... I'm gonna be back on the team this year, I can't wait!

Here's a link to our website, check out the pics, we have fun!

    Damn, I thought I was Grumpy!! :D

I, too, have a old nasty grumpy couple accross from me. They hate my cars, hate my friends, hate when we fired some flamethrowers last year at 8:45pm:confused: , and hated when I blew a headgasket on my roadster and smoked them out when i replaced it and was trying to rid the motor of excess water/coolant:D

My former neighbor always *****ed about the noise from my 55, which only had headers and header mufflers for an exhaust system. He said that it was illegal cause it didn't have catalitic convertors on it. It was kinda loud, but I didn't think they had catalitic convertors in 1955.   Needless to say, he's moved away and it's still loud.:D :D :D

When I was in high school, I ran open headers on my car for a while. One afternoon my neighbor came over and asked real nice if there was a way to quiet the car down a little. I thought it was pretty cool that he came and talked to me instead of making a big scene complaining so I toned it down.

I have done things for most of the neighbors where I live now. Like fix stuff, make brackets, whatever they need. So they never say anything when I make noise. The old guy across the street is always at my house working on some project. I finally told him to just go ahead and use the garage whenever he wants. Sometimes he wakes me up making noise in my own garage.

My ***** neighbor just kicked it. I guess she wont have to worry about the placement of my shed or my ants coming in her house anymore. I should have been more careful of what I wished for. I would rather have a nice 33 roadster in my garage. :(
I do still have Tim **** Gr*** across the street. He loves it when the comet sets off he car alarm. :D

I use to race roundy round cars for years and one night I fired up my car about 8:00 pm and my neighbors punk *** teenage son comes over and tells me to shut that off cause its disturbing his mother. He didnt worry about listenin to his rap music at 2 am with the subs poundin in the driveway while we tried to sleep.

So I advised my nieghbors that are cool about a little plan I had worked up as not to piss them off.So about 1:00 am I went out and fired the old ***** up and gave her about a 6500 rpm rod check. That kid came truckin over there and wanted to know what was going on and why I felt I had to start it up at 1 in the morning.I told him he best march his *** back next door cause we were not friends, we were neighbors and he did not seem to worry about playin his music loud when I was tryin to sleep and from that day on I never heard another sub woofer again.

My neigbors driveway runs next to my window and has a harley he could pull it out closer to the street to warm it up Early in the morning but I don't complain.

As soon as I lose my mufflers revenge is mine. Even though there are some inoccent bystandards I'm expecting colateral damage.

  21. After I got my Touring running, I had a night where I had a hankerin to hear it run. I store the car at my folks' place, sorta upscale. It was 10PM, dad was out of town and my mom was surprised to see me up there to work so late.

I warmed up the 348 and proceded to set the solid lifters/valves. Then I got is REAL loud with JohnnyBs voicemail on my cellphone!!!!!!

When I came back into the house, my mom said, "sounds good, you must be getting it broke in!"

Gotta love a mom like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only time that I worry about making noise is if there's babies or little kids trying to sleep. The adults should be able to handle it though.

Only a 302? Those hardly make any noise at all! They're so little and cute.

My neighbor builds custom headers for compe***ion pull trucks. He just moved in and has a nice non-zoned shop behind his house that has been the subject of some debate. His 69 Mustang runs 8.20 quarters with open headers and sounds wonderful when he fires it up (always during the day). When his neighbor was an ***hole about it, he called up a customer and had him bring his tractor over. The next evening I heard the delightful roar of not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Allison V-12's through open headers. That gave me wood. I think it stopped the heart of the crabby old man on the other side of him though. World War II flashbacks maybe!

Brett, screw the exhaust. Make some removable baffles for your headers and call it a day!

My old 37 was really LOUD and it's parking space was about 10 feet from my neighbor's bedroom window. My neighbor is minister and has to get up Sunday mornings  but I don't think he appreciated waking up to THAT noise on Sunday:eek:

  30. When I was getting the Harley four five up-and-running my neighbor lady walked over to complain. The jetting was off, so the bike was popping through the carb pretty bad. I had it wicked up enough to keep alive but knew that if I let off the throttle when she was about five feet away it would pop, sputter, die and spit out a nice cloud of fuel laden smoke.

    Timing is everything :)
