Customs Never built a car....

  1. CHEERS TO YOU, GREAZ******!!!

If I lived near you, I'd buy you a drink just for making that offer.

I wanted a 49 Fleetline 2 door, got one for $500 complete after asking around for 2 years. It's on the road, all nasty looking and running for under $2,000, and that includes the WWW tires.

Learn how to weld and your gonna need good friends but just get going. Life is short, get what you want and go for the gold. GREAZ****** already has the first few parts for free!

    Good luck

  2. Just do it! If you don't ten years from now (it goes fast) you'll look back and say " I might of had it done by now if I just started"

When I built my bike, I had no friends who were into bikes, there weren't any where near the amount of stuff you could buy and I had no idea what I was doing, however I could weld and had some basic tools, but above all I had a burning desire. That's what kept me going, I made tons of mistakes, there were no internet forums to help me out but I did it. I sold tons of stuff to fund the build, I sold my 59 El Camino which I regret to this day.

I've had the bike for 19 years now and every time I ride it it makes me happy.

    You can do it.

This post is worth reviewing. I'll only comment; Just because it ain't painted yet, don't let the ***holes that look down their noses at it because of that.......... because they envy us people that can build a quality machine, realizing that the paint comes last, and "no paint" don't have any thing to do with a quality built machine.

Got to this one a little late but I am hearing a lot of negative feedback here that I just don't agree with. The first car I built alone was my 1964 Fairlane I was 15 years old didn't know S**T and didn't have $6k dollars in tools or even a garage. I bought a wrecked car from the insurance company and started doin it myself in the backyard under a tarp. I didnt know how to do it so I messed it up the first three times, but thats how you learn. Two years and a budget of only $5,300 I had this:[IMG]

I sure hate to sound negative, but without a lot more money in the budget, your car will become one of those half done, busted projects other HAMBer's are telling you to look for.

Since this thread interests me so much and I didn't get an answer the first time around... I'm asking again.

It's been three weeks - have you started yet? Welding cl***es? Anything?

I agree let's have an update of some kind.

On another note you got me thinking of the dollar amount I have invested to date in my 28 chevy build, including the car. No labor cause I can't afford to pay me the little I might be worth. The car is a mocked up roller as of this date with full suspension, steering mocked up, a good engine and ****** installed, frame done, seat purchased, and even the dreaded ac and heat combo including compressor in my possesion. Now I have done all the work or I should say I haven't paid anyone to work on her, and It will need to be blown apart for final finishing. I am sure there is alot more to spend on her. but if you can learn, trade, and generally spy a good bargain at most swap meets you can have a whole bunch of fun with any build. The dollar amount at this time is roughly $5200.00 and I think I am ahead of the game. Dollar wise and have had a blast building her...John

    Huh, forgot about this thread....

Well as of right now Ive changed my "plan of attack." Im looking for a project car that has already been started. I found a 1940 Chevy pickup, already chopped, with brakes, steering, interior, and an engine for around $5000. But the guy selling it decided to keep it and finish it. So Im still lookin.
