The dash just ruined it for me. I think I threw up a little in my mouth. Look at the wavy-ness of the door (not a real word, I know). That must be about 10lbs of Bondo right there! If you must contact the owner, just find out how much bondo is in it and run away.
Man, I would like to see you drive that to the Super Chevy show. I bet you'd need bodyguards to get away. Good taste is just a fad BAD taste is timeless Lordy, that's SO ugly.
Whoa...even the DASH is ugly!!! ...at least the builder kept it consistently hideous from every angle, didn't screw up the "flow" by leaving anything nice!!!
As cool a find as it is I think I,m getting sea sick or see sick from seeing it.... Must have owned a bondo supply house!
ugly or not, that thing was big money when built. they pulled out all the tricks. maybe too many, but, i sure would like to know the history and where it came from. we don't have any finds like this in our part of the country.
Hey-Guys..... ALL early customs are ugly sonofabitches,lets get that out of the way rite now...... that in itself has little to do with nowadays value..... I would say this car has some bonafide history and is worth a lot of cash to SOMEONE..... [Now let me remind you -it only takes one buyer to make a sale.] I bet it was somebodys, relatives that had it and he built it in a real small garage with no ..."stepback"..... That is where you are skinnyin' around your car, sideways in a one car garage and cant get back far enough to "see" the results of all your customizing "efforts"...
Even tho as you state -he lives in a single wide trailer.....Just keep this in mind... "Poor folk" are sensitive.... If you make him an offer,and you piss him off ,he may then proceed to headbutt your ass into the ground. And dont even think of knockin' out his teeth!
lol this is funny. I know the thing is ugly. but if you think of the work that went into this. even though I don't care much for tri five chevs it is crazy that they used a ragtop. I do know a little history on the car. I just hoped someone would have confirm it. you know how rumors get started. I wanted or hoped someone would know the car. a friend of mine's dad had this car at his garage for years and years. It sat outside uncovered the whole time. The car is a 55 chevy. The car is no bondo bucket but it is filled full of lead with mud over it. The deck lid alone feels like it's 75 pounds. My friend's dad had a friend that bought this car a long time ago. He died and his wife couldn't stand to look at it so he took it to his garage and parked it beside the garage. Everyone tried to buy the car that seen it but he wouldn't even tell her about most of the offers. Rumor has it that someone snapped a few pics and somehow they ended up on the desk of someone that knew Jay Leno. Leno sent a guy down to look at the car to buy it because they knew of who built the car. They made an offer but either she didn't care or my friends dad didn't even tell her. From the way I take it he was waiting for her to pass away and he would have ended up with the car, so I really don't know about the Leno stuff if it's for real or rumor.few years later my friends dad passed away. so she had someone come and get the car. Fast forward 12 months and I find the car again. The car was built by someone famous. who? I have no idea. But there are magazines and other things as well as some kind of paperwork proving who built the car. So that is one reason I want to talk to the owner person to person. I may be able to get it then again maybe not. The whole story about the car may be bogus but that's what my friend told me. I was hoping that someone had seen an old mag or something that it was in to know if the stories I heard were true.
One other thing is some of you guys are freaking out. Don't feel that I'm ragging on anyone for living in a trailer I'm not. If you live in Ky you know someone that lives in a trailer. Most are built better than a house.
From the looks of the condition of the interior and the top I'd say it's not been sitting outside much as of late.
I don't get why everyone hates this car. I think the front end treatment is pretty wild and fairly well done. The wheel openings are poor and I'm not super turned on by the fins/rearend but who knows how many times this thing was repainted and changed around since it's first build. I'd love to hear how this story will play out and I'd love to hear some real, concrete history on the car too.
When you get ahold of the owner, take a jug o shine over with you...I think it would go a long way to greasing the deal making process for ya.
I'm a '55 Chevy lover, just check out the pics on my web. Next thing...it is ugly!! Having said all that, that car is a work of art and has history. Hopefully, someone like yourself will see that and restore it to its custom glory.
I just got a hold of the friend I was talking about. He's been looking for the car himself to buy. He told me that the car was bought new in 1955 for some guys little girl and she wrecked it the same year. The car sat til 1961 when it was turned into what you see here. he said he doesn't remember who built the car but it was in a few magazines and on a few tv show, one he said he thought the name of it was my classic car. Anyone have that? The guy that had the car drowned and that when my friends dad stored it. My friend said that when his dad died the woman gave it to her then 16 year old son. Which would make him 17 or 18 now. May be hard to get a car from a son that lost his dad. After hearing all this I may not even try to get it. I can understand how the kid would feel. I still have my car that my pops got me when I was 16.
YUCK! I'm sorry cats and kittens, but that fucker's gagnasty. I mean butt ugly. Throw that one back. Forget where you found it. Don't waste any more gas money (or purchase money for that matter) going back there. Oh, well, you didn't want my opinion anyway (YUCK)
I dunno...get a front clip, bumpers, head and tail lights, some trim, new rocker panels, a decklid, some new quarter panels, and a dashboard, and you'd have yourself a nice '55 convertibe.
it's kentucky man....he's got his own shine. go find an early 90's chevy 4X4 with a lift kit and 33's on it. buy it for a couple grand......he'll trade ya.
I think it's as ugly as homemade soup. Be wary of the hillbillys in that trailer, they may wanna Ned Beatty you and make you squeel like a pig.
i think the front bumper is a REAR '61 olds bumper... and the headlight 'caps' and bezels look like '58 chevy...
