Perfect answer. But I'd upgrade the brakes and also hop up the 4-banger. This car looks just too nice to strip. Immagine having a hot rod that you don't have to repaint or do the interior again!!! Gary

I'd keep it waxed, interior vacuumed and drive it like you stole it. That car is too nice to whack up and 'improve'.

Part of me says leave it alone and enjoy it! But I AM a hot rodder....

juice brakes. dropped axle. lowered spring in the rear. 16 in wires. hopup the banger and add a mitchell 2 speed.

My truck is no where near as sweet as your coupe, but my plan is the same as most everyone advised. Drive it, juice brakes, 16" wires. I've got the wheels and front brakes so far. Congratulations on a great deal!

Wow, that thing looks museum quality. Crazy deal. Do whatever you want that can be undone and keep all the parts just in case you want to go back somewhere down the line.

Thanks for all the great input I have received so far - wow, what a great response. The owner is a great guy and is just at another place in life. He is more concerned that a car guy is getting this model A than making a little more money. I am thrilled and can't wait to get the car tomorrow morning.

I really like the input I have received so far and will definately keep mods (bolt ons) to a minimum. The banger stays - that is for sure!!!

    Thanks all - Tom

    Rip off the fenders.

    Throw on 4 steelies.

    Ditch the spare tire.

    Ditch the hood.

    Chop it 3-4 inches.

    Throw in a Flathead V8

    Top her up with fuel

    and burn some rubber.

Those were my first thoughts (or close - I have an early hemi tucked away in the garage) But once I saw it and realized how clean it was I changed directions.

Thats cool. I guess we've all got our own views of how we want our cars to look.

I sometimes do think to myself, maybe we should leave these original, mint condition (like this one), historical vehicles as they are and if you want to build a hotrod, maybe its better to get one thats not in the condition that this one is. But...... I would probably do What I said.

    But then again.

    Thats me.

Its just that the car is soooo nice stock, you dont want to mess with it TOOO much. Im all about your idea, just not for this car.

Most people know my car but here you go. It's lowered with a dropped axle up front and a T spring out back, juice brakes, 16" wheels and a juiced B engine. Trans is a 1937 three speed. I did all these things while driving it, and now drive it offen

I think a hopped up banger motor with a 2 speed rear. Reversed eye springs front and rear with 17" wires.

  23. Respect the fact it has survived alot to reach this point. How many stockers will be around in 20 years? A lot less. I talk to fellow club members alot about what will be of there cars when they let them go or p*** away (which is what most of them intend to do before selling) and they fear that their cars will not be preserved for future generations to see and enjoy. Some of them drive them everyday as their only means of transport which is kinda crazy/awesome. I would just drive and enjoy this car personally. Maybe some "Bolt ons" as you said. I am the youngest member with a model A by about 20 years in the club also.

My car is not stock by the way fellas. I am going the juice brake route, banger powered, stock trans, downdraft with a single 97, and 12 volt conversion, but everything else will be stock appearing to the unaware average joe. Stock 19's, no fenders, stock ride height, no body mods, and running a full hood. Plans for the not so near future would only be a T5 conversion to keep up with traffic better and not wind the banger into oblivion.-Weeks

Nice score. If you do hop it up stow the stock parts away so it can be put back together in another 80 years.

Just to follow up I picked up the car at 8:30 this morning. The guy i traded loves his new Jeep and I am VERY happy with my new coupe. Every person that has come down the street today has stopped to say how much they like it. I have some leaks from the vent and dipstick ports to deal with (I guess this is normal for bangers?) and the 21" tires wander a bit but that can all be addressed.

I am one happy camper tonight
