Hi again hambers! Vern from Aurora, CO My grandfather made the decision to let me have the car he's been thinking about restoring himself for 15 or so years. As a teen I would harass him and we would go poke about while he showed me what was what. Every visit out to the farm I would eyeball this car looking for any changes over the years. He only did a 12v conversion along with a new exhaust pipe and muff. So really you could say that this car is what got me into the hobby. It has some sentiment to it as well. I want it to e done right or not at all. Plopped a battery in, aired up the tires, topped off fluids, put gas in tank and carb. It started and ran to my surprise so I drove it home a few days ago with someone tailing me. Now sitting in my garage up on some jackstands and I don't know where to start. I get home from work and go to grab some tools and put them down. I'll start it and let it run for 10 min and think I want to be organized this go round. I don't want to go at it like I did my 65. Most of the restos in my area have been through the SBC swap and TBH I rather like the look and sound of the 235. As long as the head aint cracked I plan on keeping it. This might change once I yank it and see how bad the damage is. This will be a car for around the town driving. Once a week or so. On the way home I did note the trans was whining horribly in 3rd and parts for it don't look readily available. Did some hunting on some other posts and the S10 t5 and rear look nice. Another option I wouldn't mind is a BW overdrive 3spd but I guess I would still have to ditch the tube and rear axle. Correct me if I'm wrong. Body is straight for the most part, trunk has some cancer in spots that's easy to patch. No chop so glass will be easy too. I truly think the car is a virgin to restoration. Only missing one piece of trim, the one that runs along the bottom under the door. Where can this one be bought? I would also like to know where lead was used on these so I can strip the lacquer off safely. Still has a factory(?) spare. 6.7r15 Firestone. Took it into work and our tire manager got to laugh when I asked her for a warranty replacement due to cracking. So if your willing I would love to have some feedback/opinions. Educate me. Vern
Well we have to see pics before any advise can be delivered! Good luck with your project. Sounds like the car is an old friend to you for sure!
Will have some pics posted in a bit. I lost my cameras usb cable. Heading off to the DMV to get title tomorrow.
