Just brought home this 60 Impala Sport Sedan; this will be wife's car and she wants it mostly stock. Nice Colorado car, one-family owned, no body rust and everything seems to work, including the radio. I'm thinking of adding grey five spokes and blackwalls. Then add a tach, rub out the paint, and add dual Magnaflows. Has a 348 W-motor, powerglide, PS, PB, and runs great. Other suggestions?
That thing is awesome! - you don't see many flat tops anymore and that looks like a good one. I used to have a '60 Bel Air and it was a really good car. I am envious of the 348. Mine had a small block and powerglide. Have fun with it.
If it's the wife's car, and she would like it mostly stock, I'd give it a good detailing and call it done. Saves money and time, and you still have a very cool ride. If it were mine, there's no way I could leave it alone though.
Cool! Are you planning to keep the original hubcaps? I have one or two that I would let go of cheap plus shipping. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Clicked on the photo for a better look. Nice! Are we looking at original paint? The flattop Chevys are some of the best looking 4 door HTs IMO.
Great looking car, 348 in a 4 door. What's your wife want the car to be, quiet duals and an underdash a/c unit might be good. Also interest if this is original paint car.
Thanks for all the replies. It has a poor repaint, original color. Seems thick enough to rub out and polish. I'm thinking either grey or chrome 5-spokes would look good. Or maybe period-style wide whites and black wheels or original wheel covers, but that may be a bit boring. Bought it from an 80-year-old client of my wife's, and my wife actually made the final offer while I was at work. She was determined to get it - ha!
Here is one lowered with stock wheel covers and mild de-chroming: This one has a cl***ic grill swap for an Impala: a 60 Mercury And Pontiac tail lenses. [/ATTACH]
I like cars that I can pull up behind at a red light and look through their rear window and see what radio station has been tuned in on the dash and they are listening to.
I'd polish the **** outa it, drop the nose just a hair, chrome reverse, OR polished original caps ( that stainless WILL shine up to damn near chrome standard, plus they're a good looking cap as stockers go), medium or dual line whites, mellow tones, & cruise it 'til the cows come home!
