hi all,the installation destructions that came with this gear specifically state, in bold letters and underlined, not to use silicone sealer on the gasket between the gear case and axle housing. it states i should install the gasket dry or with a thin layer of permatex. can anyone suggest reason for this? i've always used RTV before with out any problems.thanks

RTV is for bathtubs..It will break down if gear oil touches it.. Permatex would be the better choice.

Dry if you don't mind it seeping, permatex if you want it to seal.

The reason they bolded and underlined it is because they don't want you calling them when it starts leaking.

I use a THIN bead of "The Right Stuff",I believe it is made by Permatex. I also use Nylocks with washers on the studs, stops all leaks and they stay tight. ROY.
