    Good day,

I introduced myself on here a few months ago and now I just wanted to announce that I picked up a new truck, another 56 gmc half ton. The green one is my fathers that he redid in 69 and still has, and the other is the one I just picked up. Its still sitting in Montana and I live in Ottawa ON Canada. Im sure the weather is pretty much the same there. I dont have a spot in the garage for it without putting the every day car outside all winter and my dads truck is in the other. But not sure if its better sitting outside next to the house here, or in Montana outside where I have no control over how its covered. We will be getting it shipped to Ogdensburg NY where we will pick it up. just not sure when. I will be looking for ideas on what to do with it when I get it home... in the mean time I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for shipping. I appreciate all help and comments for upgrades/changes as well as any thoughts on shipping.

Thanks for your time. I am super excited about this truck.

    Elliot

Good looking truck, I say you should get it home, better that you look after it then someone else. Even if the weather is crappy.

What are your plans for it?

First thing I need to do is put a bed in for sure... Im gonna look into lowering it a bit depending on the fit with those big boots on it. So that might require a wheel change with some www. Its a 6 cyl, pretty sure a 248, and in those trucks the gearing in the back end is like 307 i think, so that wont need work... but I do think that I will want a split manifold so that I can get dual exhaust going into a single muffler, then to the back end as duals again. I heard thats the way to go. Other than that some engine dressing I think.. four barrel carb for sure, more...

I would certainly consider changing the wheels

Im planning on leaving the body and finish the way it is, might look into adding more red to both sides around the doors and covering up that door signs and then work the paint again and put my own logo on the side, something to do with my son and I, hes 14 months lol.... I have some thoughts on that. Then I will clear coat it when thats done.

Lol ya, i hear ya on the wheels. I dont find them too bad for now. its my truck but my father and I will be working on it together. He likes them, but then again hes 72 and all about the daily drivers and not replacing anything that still works well. Gotta love the old school thinking.

If I did change them out what would you recommend, keeping in mind an even lowering, so less rake, and that paint finish?

I hear ya on that one, Im leaning towards just getting it home soon. Thanks for the advice, makes sense.

Does it cost more to ship this time of year depending on weather?

Ya his truck is def cool, its a daily driver, hauler, mover, you name it. Does it all. He re did it in 69 with the limited funds he had and now he just maintains it. So I grew up around that truck hence my fondness of them.

Cool project - I had one with the factory Pontiac V8 and hydro trans - a great combo.
