Rod Ida has been promoting "cruising the Circuit" in Asbury Park, NJ, lately. I took my 61 Dodge out of retirement (2-3 years collecting dust), to check it out. Pretty amazing cruise night! Asbury used to be THE place to cruise, but had fallen into disrepair over the years. But it's found a new life lately, and has come back strong. Here's some pics from it's Facebook page. Photos are from various photographers.
For years (1970s-90s) my in-laws summered in Ocean Grove...right next to Asbury Park. Over those years we sadly saw the Asbury Park boardwalk amusement area slowly deteriorate to the point that even the (Miss America) auditorium became abandoned. Just wondering if the boardwalk area, and the auditorium ever became revitalized, and came back to life. We loved summers there for many years
I’ve been watching it online the last few years and it really does look to be the place to be lately! Thanks for the photos
Impressive photographs. Asbury Park brings back a lot of memories. I was stationed at Ft. Monmouth in the late 60's going to electronics school. Every weekend after the weather turned warm it was going to Asbury Park.
Bandit Billy, none are mine, I stole them from the Facebook page cruise night! Some of the people there had amazing looking cameras. Lots of Artsy-craftsy folk in Asbury. Brought back lots of memories, back in the late 70's I used to drive down to Asbury Park in one of my 55-7 Chevies, sometimes with the club I helped start, 'The Bel Airs". Even drove the 50 miles there and back in my 57 ragtop, with 4.88's and a 4 speed. Burned LOTS of gas!
