Hot Rods New backing plates from frying pans

Couldve told them a human head was approximately 8 inches diamater, and you wanted large and sturdy enough pan.

what was it that got you thinking about using frying pans for this?

 

i once saw a flower vase that looked like e&j headlites at wal-mart.

Brilliant idea! They look really sharp.

Saw this guys car, he made his covers from cake pans. I think they were a bit flimsy but they look the part. Sorry I don't have a better pic.

I used a 12" steel wok from Walmart to help fabricate my ****** cover.
Don't laugh.

 

A guy on another forum used 2 large stainless cake pans and a big stainless bowl to make a radiator fan shroud! The thing was incredible all polished up.
Mask up when cutting into teflon, the stuff is NASTY on your lungs.

Great thing is the brake dust won't stick to the inside it's teflon!! Too cool!

I always look at those little condiment bowls at the dollar store and see a velocity stack for my lawnmower!

I saw a similar article in Street Rodder a few years ago that used an aluminum pan to make some brake scoops.

 

I like it.
I once saw a 56 chevrolet with the engine set back a bit. The guy fabricated a beautiful firewall using a wheel barrow tub set up on end and seamlessly welded into the firewall. You probably wouldn't have realized what it was unless he told you.

You guys are friggen geniuses around here with your mad fabrication skills.

I saw the article in Street Rodder too. It took me about a year to find the right pans, aluminum ones seem to be hard to find. I'm hopping I won't need to vent them, but I've already picked up some small finned scoops in case I do. The calipers are out in the airflow, so I'm hopping that will be enough. They are attached with the 4 bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the spindles, you can see them in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th pictures. My wife thought I was nuts when I bought them, and told her what I was going to do. Thanks, Dean

 

Wouldn't that trap heat in the rotor area and inhibit the rotors from cooling?
