New Ball Joints how much grease

I just put new ball joints in my buddys 55 chevy,How do you know when you pumped enough grease into them.I have a lincoln hand held gun and squeezed about 15 pumps in each,is it good to go? thanks jim

 

I always keep squeezing grease into a zerk until it comes out the edge of the joint or boot. UNLESS it has a "sealed" boot that will only balloon up, and not allow the grease to come out. Those I guess a few squirts is good.

 

Yea. blow a sealed boot and youre redoin it right away. 15 should be cool.

 

I always pump 'em up 'til the boot is "firm". Everybody remembers what "firm" feels like, Right??? Don't burst 'em!!!

 

I've found that most new ones come pre-greased. I usually pump enough grease to push out the old stuff.

 

I always give about 4 pumps, wait about 30 minutes, then give her another 4 pumps, your done

 

I grease them until the boot swells.

 

we are talking grease lubing , right? LOL.

 

Yep, until the boot is firm.
