You should be able to do a search in the US Patent and Trade Mark office and verify if there is an active TM for the word Winfield as applied to an automotive part. Pretty simple to do a trademark if it isn't, more complicated to do a registered trademark..... a regular trademark uses the TM while a registered trademark uses the R in the circle.

Going to the USPTMO, there are about 50 filings that include Winfield, stuff like golf clubs, insecticide, clothing, teddy bears.....all kinds of stuff. You got open each file and see what it pertains to.

Your going to water jet the name in the head?

  4. Just a thought..... Probably price prohibitive and not sure it would work in iron. Besides, if I was going through the effort I would probably put my own name on there just to mess with people. :D:D:D:D

  6. Yeah, there was a guy on the AACA website that made his own parts and would put his birthday on there as a part number.

It runs but the plug wire will not stay so it will have to wait for a test drive on another day.

Based on what I see so far with Bill's work, I have decided to assemble a solid list for the first run of heads. I have taken names from my emails and from the Ford Barn. If you have only told me you want one on this forum, please email me so I can add you to the list. Specify which kind and how many. Some people have already asked for 2. I need to add quantity next to the name so I don't make less than I need.

I have at least 14 people already.

We have mainly been talking about the Winfield regular, pictured above, and the crow's foot version, both in iron.
Ratios are 6:1 and 7:1. I also can offer a Thomas in iron, from new tooling that looks like Bill's Thomas above, only better. That will be available from Snyder's in aluminum again when he is out of current stock. I have a dual plug head I made for Snyder's that can also be made in iron. A 6:1 like the iron I make for Snyder can be made in aluminum. A guy PM'd me from the Barn asking for a picture line-up of what I can offer. I will be assembling that info also.

I want to keep pricing at $400.00 for the time being. If it needs to inch upwards over time, it won't be much.

  12. I currently have a Thomas head like the one above on my Fordor - it would be a good comparison to see how it rates against the iron Winfield. I had to shave the fins a little at the back to refit it recently even with the front mount taken off, and the only other dilemma is water pooling around the plugs as they're inline with the bonnet hinge - but apart from that I really like it.

I'll email you to add myself to the list as I guess I'd quite like an iron Thomas, but I'll wait for Bill's maiden voyage...

Don't be shy guys... This is a very nice head... Tod keeps telling me that the head I have is not to his production standards. The small flaws that mine has in it are still better then any thing made that I have seen in the last 10 years.

I brought it to get presser test to my engine guy and he was very impressed the the Quality.... He has decked almost all my A heads so he has seen some of the junk we have deal with in the model A world

My Thomas head will be up forsale on EBay so I can buy a crows foot head.
Should I add I paid $550 for the head from a engine rebuilder at Hershey 5 years ago.

If I could change one think it would be to add the winfield name.

My foundry and one core shop are working with me to use the core shop's finer sand for molding which will yield much nicer looking castings. I have already worked the machining out so that the heads are more to my liking.

I still have a 6:1 iron to place if someone is looking to be a test monkey.

Ran the car down town before dark last night. All is well it's been heat cycled 3 time.
My best head gasket lined up with all the ports very nicely.... And sealed great with no weeping.

Snyder is asking me about having an engine dynoed with one of these new heads. Anyone know how we can get that done?
