Retired Guy - all of a sudden all of this free time, so I picked up a fair to middlin' 53 Buick Super 4 door sedan this week. It's got a nice 100 yard paint job - it even looks pretty good from 40 feet. At 10 feet it's okay - then at 3 feet it's AWFUL - so you can't get closer than 10 feet to my car until after the re-paint. I like the Aqua color - offset by Pearl White - so it will get done the same. Anyone know where I can grab a power steering unit ? The car never had power steering, so it isn't a "replacement" - it's an ADD ON. Don't even know if I can do it at all. Comments ? I'll be looking for an underdash A/C unit soon too - comments about that ? Never had A/C either. Last but not least, I half-filled it with regular 87 octane (and 10% Ethanol) today - Do I need to add a lead additive as well ? HELP ! And thanks in advance for listening, and for those of you willing to share - thanks for the advice and info. Keith (aka RIP) Rohring
For the power steering I would suggest looking into a unit from a later Buick. As far as A/C your best be would be vintage air or another aftermarket company. Being in Buffalo I don't see where you would need it as you are snow bound ( My wife is from Clarence). As far as the additave, I can't help with that one.
Welcome from Florida. I grew up on the OTHER side of the canal. Got out of the Navy in '70 and headed south. Had hoped to be there for the Canalfest cruise night this month in my '32, on the north side of the bridge of course, but plans have changed. Going to miss the Niagara Reunion and my high school reunion too. What are the good cruise nights in the area now. Last one I went to other than Canalfest was out on Transit in Lockport, but I've heard that one closed down. Good luck with the Buick, drive the wheels off it. Lee
Welcome again from Florida, this time from the Gulf coast, and again from a North Tonawanda guy. Since you're retired, get out of that place and into some better weather. I was there for the Canal Fest 2 weeks ago and boy, sure got alot of rain. Luckily, cruise night and bike night were good. Glad they had a good weekend for Sunday Niagara at Lancaster. Please send some Sahlen hot dogs down here!! Good luck with the Buick and like my buddy Lee said--drive the wheels off it!!
