Ok... so about 4 years ago I started building my 1932 Ford Roadster. Its a Brookville body on ASC framerails, original crossmembers. A 276 Flathead build by GoCat Speed. I was going for a throw back Highboy with a dry lakes looks. I am very happy with the way it turned out.... but I may be selling it. So the reason I am telling you this is because it has been distracting me from the other build. The Belly tank racer. About the same time I started the 32 build my buddy and I talked about a belly tank build and actually found what we believe to be a p-38 drop tank for a very reasonable price. Elmo Rodge supplied the bent frame rails and there it sat... until now. I am starting the build by getting the perimeter frame built and trying to get a rolling chassis. I have never been to the salt... but want to. The 2013 rule book showed up last week and I have been checking all the past builds. We are wanting to run in the V4F class and I was excited to read Bobby Greeens post a while back about the HV4 class that he is proposing. Maybe that will be accomplished by the time this build is done. Good Luck with that Bobby! I live in Orange County (Costa Mesa) and hope there are some past or present inspectors to check the build progress as we go. Always lots of questions and looking at lots of pics of previous builds (Awelker and Elmo Rodge are great examples). I will try to take pics throughout the build and keep you guys posted. Thanks for looking!
Very cool. ask lots of questions, remember that you are packaging a car into a decreasing cylinder. Some of the P-38 tanks are stretched 20" or so, this can be crucial depending on the driveline. J
