there is a passenger side dipstick hole I'm not going to use.It has a plastic plug in it. Is that a temporary plug or a permanent one or do I need to get something else?

  2. plastic is temp it should have came with a steel "slug" that you would coat with sealer and tap into the hole

  3. Most the ones I've seen had two plugs. Different size plug for left and right. Should be in the bag with the papers.

If it is a real GM crate motor, it came with the plug and 2 timing indicators.
