Heres how the story goes, as I was saying so along to the ol roadster and really hating to see it go with no trades and no driver for the rest of the summer, I guess I hit a lucky streak. The Sunday before I delivered the roadster I was staining the deck on our house when my neighbors Dad came over and ask if I was interested in 1947 Ford, I said maybe I would take a look later in the week, well he kept coming back until I finished the deck and I finally went and took a look. It had no trim all was gone including the grille and front bumper but the sheet metal looked to be really exceptional, and everything including the engine was very clean so I told him I would take it, and he says oh I have all the trim in the shed out back and replacement trim from Drakes, and this is when I about shit myself!!!!!!!!!!!! Long story short I was driving the next day, trim back on in a week and I have now driven it around 300 miles in the last week since I have been driving it to work on a daily basis. The flathead 6 runs great still needs some carb work but nothing major so far, the odometer is showing 53000 miles and Im pretty damn sure thats actual. Not sure what the plan is yet, Im going to reverse the spring eyes for now, new tie rods and king pins and drive the rest of the summer, by fall I will know which route to go..............so stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!
Nice trade off. I felt badly about selling my '32 roadster. Then, a month later my buddy finally decided to sell me his El Camino that I'd been trying to buy from him for 25 years. I finished the El Camino to suit my tastes and no longer miss my roadster. My arthritis is the reason I sold my roadster. I couldn't bend my knees enough to get into the small door opening. I owned it for 12 years. Getting old is a bitch. I really like your sedan. You'll really grow to like all of the extra leg room and passenger/cargo room....Good luck, Mike
man that looks like a great score , if i was offered a car like that , it would be a bone and have to be dragged off a flatbed , your living right
Thanks for the compliments...........This is one of the most fun ol cars I have had in along time, Here's an update, I have had the car about a month, my Dad and I went through the brakes it had new wheel cylinders lines and master cylinder everything had just froze up. We filed the points and reset the carb, changed the oil and cleaned the oil bath and put in some fresh oil. Plan to replace the shocks and reverse the spring eyes, replace tie rods, and boil the tank and clean the lines. Ive driven the crap out this car drove it to work everyday until the temps here reached a 100 degrees and then wussed out. Last weekend loaded my wife and daughter met my folks for supper and then rode around in the country for a couple hours, at first I considered changing suspension and installing the typical sbc but you know everything works and with a little alltitude adjustment and fine tuning its a shit load of fun just the way it is. I started doing this hobby with my Dad when I was 14 and had a similiar 41 Plymouth(nothing desirable but old just the same) and we had a ton of fun with it without breaking the bank and everytime I start this ol car and leave it reminds me of those times, My Dad and I still do it together and enjoy every minute, my wife and Mom still support the idea and are always willing to go for a ride in no matter what it is. Theres more to these cars then just rod runs and over priced events.......its great getting back to the root of things. Keep on keepin on!!!!!!!!!!!Later RP
Looks like a fun ride. Where did the Roadster end up? I love that car! And what are we going to do about your HAMB handle?
Looks like the perfect cruiser to just have fun with and not get carried away with how fast it is or what not. But you can always build it a garage mate if you want something faster or something that can burn up the highway on trips to events that are too far away for relaxed cruising speeds.
I've been trying to afford & build a '32 for the last 5 years. My "dream car" had become a nightmare that had me constantly trying to figure out how to afford the next needed piece. If I finished it, it was clear to me that it would make sense to sell it & put the $$$ toward something more sensible - house, school loan, etc... Yeah, it had quickly become no fun at all and working on it just got me closer & closer to still not having a hot rod. Ironic. I recently sent the '32 down the road (in pieces) & got myself into a '47 Ford coupe that will be something that I can enjoy without feeling guilty. It should be on the road early next year. I don't have to have the "coolest car on the grounds" to have fun. I just want to be able to cruise with my buddies. Love that sedan RP. Looks like a fun ride. JH
Ain't it kind of funny how we go in circles? Back to what we started in, and it seems like we had more fun then, than we do now. My first 4 wheel car was a 46 sedan. I wouldn't mind having one again to take to the back roads like you and your Mrs. did. Just put a picnic basket with some home made fried chickin and potato salad some drinks, in the trunk. And you and the Mrs. and your daughter head out to some park and enjoy life like it used to be. You did good....very good. HellRaiser
