Finally, I am free of the customs only world and viewing the road from the helm of a 19 foot yacht. I love my 59 Cad, but the prospect of driving around in this go-cart is making me more excited than my kid on Christmas.

Here are some pictures of the first time I saw my new project. The car was previously owned by my friend Tim's son, Bob, who needed some cash. Now, the car is mine and the cash is his (in several payments). Tim is letting me do the major build stuff in his garage.

It may not get done as fast as I want, but it sure is going to be a hell of a lot of fun to build -- a guy could die of malnutrition forgetting to eat in the garage. Soon the DRAG LYNX Car Club will have another hot rod to even out the customs vs hot rod ratio.

Major thanks to my friends Jim and Tim for helping me make this happen.

We updated the brakes (thanks Jim and Tim) and the now moved on to the frame. We made the step the height of the frame. Thanks for the guidance Vern and Mike. It's a good thing my friend Tim took some welding courses, the JB weld I had in mind would have been a rough haul.

Sure thing. I am going to tear the chain guard off my Schwinn at home. I may even run a banana seat and a sissy bar! Anyone got an F1 box?

let me rephrase my post. love them 30 31s on the correct rails..

  10. They tend to fit good if you put them back on the frame that it came with. Monkey prolly didnt want to cut up his S-10 yet to harvest the chassis....

Finally it it time to try and start stuffing in the mill. This is all a learning process, so we are modifying things as we go. At each step we get giddy and throw the body back on and jump in. This time without the body but the seat and motor in, we feel like we are sitting in "THE BUG". We are switching from the car water pumps to truck water pumps so the 8BA can fit between the rails and not get hung up on the mounts. Next week we will actually clean the motor -- we plan on selling the vintage grease we scrape off to our buddies over in Europe who are in need of vintage stuff.

Many thanks to the EDEN VALLEY GARAGE and their crew. Putting a car together anywhere else would just be stupid.

Are you going to run a Dagels X member, or something similar?

Definetly looks like you have a good start.

  15. Setting goals: The motor must be heard running by end of New Years Day!

Bolts! We need Bolts! Bring (6) 7/16 x 1" with matching lock washers up next time. And a set of Autolite 216 spark plugs. That would be 8 of them. I have a starter you can borrow until you get your own. We'll cobble together a carb. And in a few days were gonna fire that flathead up like an old shootin iron in Virginia City on new years eve in 1870. Hot and Smokey!

Eden Valley Garage works on a Gennie '34 Henry steel crossmember while the rest of us sleep. This gives me the tranny mounts AND the ability to mount the '34 pedal assembly. When it is all done, it should look like Henry built it this way (or should have).

Thanks again to Tim (working like an elf on a sugar high at the north pole).

off and running, looking good so far.

  23. Ya know, I'm not really sure where that spring came from. It may be a reversed eye spring from a 34 frame that's been in the parts pile for some time now. The rear spring will lose a leaf and get a 1" kink put in it at the ends to lower that end a bit more...

  24. No boxing on this one. Brent just wont be driving it like Bo Duke in the General Lee...

Glad to see another hot rod in the area. You have some good infuence in Tim and Jim.

good luck, maybe we will see you on the road soon.

  26. Some more progress today. Finished up the k-members and made up a cross support from parts laying around. This will go up inside the original cross member and tie into the rear of the k-members. Brent will be here tomorrow and we'll get lots done and drink more Mtn Dew. More pictures tomorrow...

All of the mounts are now in, the forward supports that Henry would have been proud of are hooked up (thanks to Tim's Eden Valley engineering) and the mill is sitting right where it should (matched up perfectly).

Hopefully we should fire it up in the next day or so -- the neighbors should be thrilled.

It's alive! The 8BA finally was fired up and it does a great job of wakin the neighbors and scarin dogs. When we were turning the motor over getting it ready, a huge black widow shot out of one of the exhaust ports and set the tone. Thanks to Tim, Jim and Jim for being there for the birth.

My buddy Jim also made the night great by driving me to the party in his 30. He got some new wheel covers that go over his wires. The look so damn cool. Not sure what color he is going to paint them, but they would be right at home on some salt.

Is that a stock model-a seat, or is that from some other year ford?
