OK folks, put it on your calendar NOW! February 23rd, 2008.
Steve (buzzard) threw down the gauntlet the day after, Day of the Drags. Seems we have a lot of folks on the HAMB that are not getting their insatiable racing appe***es satisfied with the 2 FANTASTIC drag racing events we have currently. He recommended that another event be investigated, and see what someone could do about adding another event to next years Hot Rod season.
Rich Witkovski owns North Star Dragway, and participated at Day of the Drags. He was interested in hosting an event. Phone calls were made. Meeting arrangements were made.
The Torques were looking for an event to add to the 2008 season. We discussed it, along with some other folks around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and have decided to do it.
So, the Torques would like to announce, along with a lot of other folks in the area, that on February 23rd, we will be hosting the "Texas Thaw Vintage Drags and Car Show" at North Star Dragway. It seems there is a gap in the action between Pistons & Paint, and the LoneStar Roundup. So we picked the last weekend in February, before the strip starts it's full blown season. I know, it can sometimes be chilly in Feb., hence the 'Thaw', but we know in Texas, things will be heating up fast, and soon. Plus, if ya break anything, you've got about 6 weeks to fix it before Roundup.
We all wanted to stay close to creating a similar environment to the HAMB Drags, and Day of the Drags, so this event will be for 1963 and older cars. We are working out a 'cl***' structure, purses, and such. We will also be having a car show for those that don't want to make p***es, or for the shiney cars that come, and don't want rubber dust on their fenders. We would really like to encourage club participation in the show, as we are looking at having 'Club-Pick' trophys. We aren't trophy collectors, but I love seeing the wicked creations, some of you guys come up with. So if your a club that would like to offer a trophy, drop me a p.m.
I'd like to thank Steve for the help he's offered, and the guys that have contacted me directly to offer help and ***istance in seeing another drag racing event offered to the m***es. Thanks to Ryan for encouraging the growth of events. We are also researching the possibility for a 'host-hotel/parking lot party', for Friday night. Details will be forth coming.
So, that being said, add February 23rd, 2008 to your calendar, and plan on joining us for some fun.
    Stay Tuned.
    Thanks - BigKen

They probably need some relaxed rules for the meet. Stuff like, no handicaps allowed... Rule 6 is lame:

"No deep staging is allowed, except for Jr. dragsters. "

1/8 mile, so should get through a lot of cars fast.

Good news for most, but this leaves our Nostalgia Super Stockers out...our rules allow 59 thru 67. Will try to bring something, but count our 20/30 NSS cars out.

Damnit. There's not supposed to be anything going on between Pistons N Paint and Roundup! Thats when you build your cars, not drive them! :D

It may be cold but so long as it's not snowing, I'll be there.

One thing many of us slow door banging cars will like, is that you if you run slower than 8.99 in the 1/8 then you do not have to wear a helmet. Also, one you may not like is... if your running a roadster you must run arm restrants. We are gonna try to get some to loan out those who may not have them. Its a good safety reason and don't worry about having to buy some cause we will take care of you if ya just show to support this event.

Also we have lined up a couple of really kewl vendors and if you want to be a vendor then contact me or bigken.

This last Feburary 23, the high was 73 degrees. I know that's cold, but it's not unbearable.

Ken and the rest of the Torques, I'm impressed that you guys have gotten this squared away so quickly. I haven't really done anything but try to help spread the gospel of traditional hot rodding. That's why we're here, right?

This will be a cool event and I can't wait...

I may be able to make it. I will have to check my daughters wrestling schedule. I think that is the off weekend between regionals and state. If it is I will be there.

With over 90 registered members of the Texas Outsiders, from all over the nation and many foreign countries..yes, 20 or so cars is not hard to do at all...we have 5 team cars ourselves.....and 5 more in Missouri that will show...most likely can get 20 anytime...especially in the winter..........nothing booked and everyone having cabin fever.

Hey Tex, do your cars look like 60's super stockers or are they modern bracket cars with computers and all the contingency stickers etc.? Not dogging ya, just curious. I love to see era correct cars at the track.

Root, click on the link on his signature. Theres a list of all the members with links to some pictures.

Some of the cars are cool as hell, numerous vintage appearing super stocks, but there are others that don't fit. I would welcome some of the Outsiders, however I would really despise someone showing up in a '72 Nova, Duster/Demon, AMX, or Chevelle.

We debated on this subject and we are just not gong to be able to please everyone. We thought about allowing certain cars newer than 63 like maybe 64 or 65 but we decided that just is not fair. We agree with ya Eric that we do not muscle cars era type car there. If that is all you have PLeas come anyway and support the event and just spectate.

Good luck to all with the race.

Our NSS cars are ALL period correct and run NO Electronics..rules require engines like those that came in em......most are 2x4 and many are stick shift. No trans brakes...........in NMC the rules are different and have many of the "muscle" cars.

Cl***es in NSS range from 9.25 to 13.50 and we now have a few AWB cars also.

Best wishes for all, we may come out and just watch. Hell, seems that no one wants to see stick shift cars on the 1/8 mile running in the very low 6 second range........our best with the ole 63 Galaxie is a 6.09@113.........will be in Houston this coming weekend for our end of season Texas Outsider race..Payout is $2000 to win and $1000 for r/u.........our shop is at 2027 Witt Rd, Frisco, Tx...anyone interested in seeing what they look like are invited to stop by anytime............btw...we just GAVE away a 50 Chevy to a Hamb member.........

Not much sense going to Decatur on Saturday. Go Friday to get the deals or Sunday as people are loading up.
